Subject – Concern over the impact of paid news

Sir ,

I write this letter to express my concern over the impact of paid news which is rampant in today’s world.

Corruption in the Indian media has gone way beyond the corruption of individual journalists. These organizations are “planting”  information on behalf of receiving favours in cash or kind. Newspapers and television channels are receiving funds for publishing or broadcasting information in favour of specific individuals , celebrities , political leaders etc.

Under the garb of freedom of speech , misuse of this fundamental right can be evidently seen. People tend to believe such news without giving a second thought to it. The vagueness of news remains undetermined and the source remains anonymous , hence there is no scope of authenticity of the news.

Such malpractices have destroyed the credibility of media and hence , detrimental to its own interest in the long run.

Paid news obstruct the capability of public to form correct judgments and    accurate opinions. As the content of paid     news is constructed to achieve some effect or result by the ones who have invested their money in the development of content , therefore , any opinion , feature misleads the public. It might influence the public , thus , affecting the electoral process.

Therefore , I request you to kindly take action against such paid news which is being run by various media houses and expose them through your esteemed newspaper. Also , the Government should make strict and stringent rules and impose penalties on those found culprits.

Yours faithfully
