Overview of New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy visit to India
The governor of New Jersey Phil Murphy, paid a six-city tour to India from September 15-22, 2019 with focus on inviting companies to invest and create jobs. By this visit, Phil Murphy became the 1st governor of the US (United States) state to visit India. The six places visited were New Delhi, Mumbai, Agra, Hyderabad, Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad.

Home Minister Amit Shah announced first ever “digital census” in 2021
On September 23, 2019, during the foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction of a new building of Registrar General of India (Janganana Bhawan/Census Building) in New Delhi, which conducts the census exercise, Union Minister of Home Affairs(MHA) Shri Amit Shah, announced to conduct first-ever “digital census” in 2021. He also suggested a single multipurpose identity card i.e., one card facility for all utilities in the future.
Key points
i. The digital census is expected to have the potential in bringing all the cards like Aadhaar, passport, bank account, driving license etc. under a single platform. Rs. 12, 000 crores will be spent on preparation of National Population Register (NPR) and census 2021. It will be a transformation from paper census to digital census as mobile app will be used to collect data.

Overview of Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal 2 day visit to UAE (Sep 21 & 22, 2019)
The Union Minister of Railways and Commerce & Industry, Shri.Piyush Goyal has made a two-day visit to UAE (United Arab Emirates) from 21st – 22nd September 2019 for the meeting of the 7th India-UAE High Level Task Force on Investment (HLTFI).
i. Piyush Goyal has unveiled the design of the India Pavilion for ‘Dubai Expo 2020’, in Dubai, UAE and hailed the recent tax measures as a leap towards making India a hub of investment. He also visited the site of the ‘Dubai Expo 2020’ and took stock of the preparations.

SEBI tightens guidelines for debt mutual fund applicable from April 1, 2020
On September 22, 2019,In order to improve the risk management & ensure sufficient liquidity, the regulator for the securities market in India, SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) has tightened the rules for mutual funds, in which it make it mandatory for liquid schemes to hold at least 20 % in liquid assets such as cash and cash equivalents like treasury bills and repo on government securities.
The new guideline comes into force from April 1, 2020.

Paisalo Digital inks co-origination of loan agreement with Bank of Maharashtra
On September 20, 2019, Paisalo Digital (Formerly known as S.E Investments Limited) has signed its second co-origination of loan agreement with major public sector bank in India, Bank of Maharashtra (BoM) with the aim to necessitate the joint contribution of credit flow by BoM and Paisalo Digital. The arrangement also involve sharing of risks & gains between them.

i. On August 12, 2019, Paisalo digital has signed the 1st co-origination loan agreement (designed at Rs.10,000 to 2 lakh) with State Bank of India (SBI) to pay out 200,000 loan applications in 2019 (FY-Fiscal Year 2020).

Bharti Airtel & Bharti AXA Life Insurance tie up to offer pre-paid plan with insurance protection cover
On September 23, 2019, An Indian global telecommunications services company, Bharti Airtel has tied up with Bharti AXA Life Insurance, one of the best insurance companies in India to offer prepaid plan for its users along with insurance protection plan.Key points:
i. Special Plan & insurance cover: Airtel has brought a special prepaid plan of Rs 599, in which customers will get 2GB (gigabyte) data per day, unlimited calling and 100 SMS (Short Message Service) per day on any network, as well as a life insurance cover of Rs 4 lakh from Bharti AXA Life Insurance.
ii. Validity: There will be a validity of 84 days on this recharge. After 3 months, this insurance cover will be automatically maintained on every recharge.
iii. Eligibility: This plan of insurance cover with Airtel prepaid plans will be available for people between 18 and 54 years of age. For this, no paperwork is required nor medical certificate of any kind is needed. On the request of the customer, a copy of the insurance will also be delivered to the customer’s doorstep. Airtel has developed a special system for this, through which this entire process is completed within a few minutes.
iv. At present, this prepaid plan of Airtel which provides insurance cover is available to customers of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry circle and to be extended pan-India in a few months.

According to United in Science Report 2019 by UN, average global temperature between 2015-2019 set to be the hottest of any five-year period on record
According to the report titled United in Science for 2019 by United Nations (UN), the average global temperature between 2015-2019 will be the hottest of any five-year period on record. It is estimated to be 1.1 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial (1850-1900) times and 0.2 degrees Celsius warmer than 2011-2015. The report was compiled by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and was prepared by the Science Advisory Group of the UN Climate Action Summit 2019.
Key Points:
i. Carbon dioxide grew 2% in 2018 and reached a record high of 37 billion tonnes.
ii. The extent of Arctic summer sea ice declined at a rate of 12% per decade over the past 40 years, and the four lowest values were between 2015 and 2019.
iii. The Science Advisory Group was co-chaired by WMO Secretary-General Petteri Taalas and Leena Srivastava, former Vice Chancellor of The Energy and Resources Institute School of Advanced Studies (TERI SAS), New Delhi.
iv. The report consists of summaries contributed by WMO, Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Global Carbon Project (GCP), the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Future Earth, Earth League and the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS).

Overview of T20I series held between South Africa and India
A 3-day Twenty 20 International (T20I) series was held between South Africa and India. The series concluded with a draw 1-1 as the first match was abandoned. The captain of the Indian team was Virat Kohli and the captain of the South African team was Quinton de Kock. Former Indian test cricketer Madhav Apte passed away at the age of 86 in Mumbai
On September 23, 2019, former Indian test cricketer and opener Madhav Apte passed away at the age of 86 in a hospital in Mumbai due to cardiac arrest. Born in Mumbai, Maharashtra as Madhavrao Laxmanrao Apte in 1932, he had played 67 first class matches inclusive of 46 Ranji trophy matches for Mumbai and three for Bengal scoring 3336 runs with 6 centuries and 16 half centuries.Key points
Apte who played seven tests in the early 1950s scoring 542 runs, with a lone hundred and three fifties to his credit, also served as the President of the Cricket Club of India(CCI) for some years and the ‘Legends Club’ till his last breath.

1st Edition of Ayushman Bharat Diwas for 2019 observed on September 23
The 1st edition of Ayushman Bharat Diwas was observed on September 23, 2019. It was on this day a year ago Ayushman Bharat Yojana or Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Ranchi, Jharkhand. It is the world’s largest health care programme which provides a health cover of Rs 5 lakh annually to vulnerable families. Key Points:
i. In the last one year, more than 46 lakh beneficiaries have received the treatment.
ii. At present, 32 States and Union Territories (UTs) have implemented the scheme. J&K becomes first state to issue highest number of golden cards under Ayushman Bharat scheme.
iii. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ayushman Bharat scheme is Indu Bhushan.
About PMJAY:
It is also known as National Health Protection Scheme (NHPS). All the previous government schemes such as Senior citizen health Insurance Scheme (SCHIS), Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana, Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), and Employees’ State Insurance Scheme (ESIS) were subsumed to form NHPS.
International Coastal Cleanup Day observed on 21st September
The International Coastal Cleanup Day (ICCD) is observed annually on the third Saturday of September. This year it was observed on September 21, 2019. It encourages people along with ocean conservation groups, and environmental organizations to clean up the garbage/trash on the beach. 2019 International Coastal Cleanup Animal is The Pelican.
Key points
i. Coastal Cleanup Day was established by the Ocean Conservancy in 1986, an organization that works in protecting the ocean from the challenges it faces every year. The fist cleanup had only 2800 volunteers. It has now grown into an International event in more than 100 countries.
Coastal states across the country took part in massive beach cleaning drive with many volunteer participations:
i. As part of the ICCD, The Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard (ICG) organised a cleanup drive with the theme — strive for trash-free seas and coasts in Chennai.
ii. Also, U.S. Consulate General in Chennai, in partnership with the Indian Maritime Foundation also launched a cleanup drive to raise awareness about global marine pollution at Besant Nagar, Chennai.
iii. In Odisha, a beach clean-up was organized as a part of “Mo-Beach” cleaning programme. Sudarshan Pattnaik is the ambassador of “Mo-Beach” cleaning programme. Puri, Odisha witnesses world’s biggest drive on the International Coastal Cleanup Day.
iv. In Mumbai also, thousands of volunteers joined Thousands join ‘clean Versova beach‘ and Juhu beach clean up drive on the ocassion of ICCD.
STATE NEWS
Centre introduced a new scheme named ‘Assistance for Deep Sea Fishing’ for the fishermen in Tamil Nadu
Union Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries Giriraj Singh notified that a new scheme named ‘Assistance for Deep Sea Fishing’ was introduced for fishermen in Tamil Nadu as a part of ‘Blue Revolution Scheme’. Rs 300 crore was released for this scheme by the union government.
Key Points:
i. The total cost of the scheme is Rs 1600 crore. The share of the Central government is Rs 800 cr and Rs 320 cr will be borne by the state.
ii. The government of Tamil Nadu will implement a deep sea fishing scheme in 4 districts of Palk Bay, including Ramanathapuram district which will prevent fishermen from crossing the IMBL (International Maritime Boundary Line).
