ii.The campaign has been formulated under the guidance of Empowered Group 6, chaired by NITI Aayog Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Amitabh Kant.

Union Government Granted Rs 500 cr Emergency Funds to Armed Forces for War PreparednessGovt grants emergency funds

i.The financial power provided by the Central Government amid ongoing border tensions with China enables the three defence services (Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force) to buy any weapon system or any in inventory upto Rs 500 cr in consultation with the Department of Military Affairs (DMA).
ii.The government has also decided to relax certain rules to reduce delays in military purchases such as allowing procurement of required weapons and equipment from a single vendor.

Karnataka Becomes the First State to Amend Industries (Facilitation) Act for Small, Medium and Large-scale IndustriesKarnataka Amends Industries Facilitation Act

On 25 June, The Karnataka Government amended the “ The Karnataka Industries(Facilitation) act, 2002”, in the state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister of Karnataka BS Yediyurappa, to facilitate and attract investment in the state.
Objective of the Act:-
The act helps to make simple regulations and procedures for requirements, creating an ideal environment for investment.
Note:- Gujarat and Rajasthan are the only two states in the country that have amended the act (for small scale industries only). Karnataka amended the act for small, medium and large scale industries.

China to Join UN Arms Trade Treaty to Enhance World PeaceChina to join UN arms trade treaty

The Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress (NPC) has agreed to join the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty (UN-ATT) that is designed to control the flow of weapons into conflict zones. As a part of this treaty, China is committed to enhance peace and stability in the world.

  • Notably, China strictly controlled the export of military products as it only exports to sovereign countries and not to non-state actors.
  • As per Stockholm International Peace Research Institute’s (SIPRI) study in January 2020, China is the second largest arms producer in the world, behind the United States (US).

Point to be noted:
The Sixth Conference of States Parties (CSP6) of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) will be held in Geneva, Switzerland from 17-21 August 2020. Please note that the second preparatory meetings, originally scheduled from 14-17 April, 2020 are cancelled due to public health concerns of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
What is ATT?
The Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) entered into force on December 24, 2014 that requires member countries to keep records of international transfers of weapons and to prohibit cross-border shipments that could be used in human rights violations or attacks on civilians. Its aim is to contribute towards international and regional peace by promoting cooperation and transparency and reducing human suffering.

  • Number of States that have joined the ATT: 105
  • Namibia ratified to become the 106th member in April 2020. It will enter into force on July 27, 2020.

India Ranks 77th in Terms of Money Deposited in Swiss Banks, UK tops: SNB Statistics 2019India at 77th place swiss bank

According to the ‘Annual banking statistics, 2019’ released by Switzerland’s central bank Swiss National Bank (SNB), India is at the 77th position in terms of money parked by its citizens and enterprises with Swiss banks at the end of the year 2019,compared to 74th  the previous year (i.e 2018). Indians account for only 0.06 % of the money deposited by foreigners in Swiss banks.
While, Britain holds the first place in this list with a share of 27 % of the total deposits.
i.The deposits of Indian citizens and companies in Swiss banks declined by 5.8 % to 899 million Swiss francs (Rs 6,625 crore) in 2019.

i.Minister of Defence (Raksha Mantri) Rajnath Singh paid a 3-day visit to Russia from June 23- 25, 2020 on the invitation of Defence Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Shoigu to attend the 75th Anniversary of Victory Day Parade and to strengthen the longstanding special and privileged strategic partnership between India and Russia.  
ii.A Tri-Service 75- Member Indian Military Contingent along with contingents of Russian Armed Forces and 17 other countries participated in the Victory Parade. The Indian marching contingent was led by a major rank officer of the gallant Sikh Light Infantry Regiment.

iii.The award is given to her as per the Delhi High Court order in 2018, where the selection committee was directed to consider her & keep the decision in a sealed cover until she was acquitted of the doping charges.

Vir Chakra Awardee 1971 War Hero Sqn. Ldr. Parvez Jamasji Passes AwayVir-Chakra-awardee-1971-war-hero-Sqn-Ldr-Parvez-Jamasji-passes-away

The Vir Chakra Awardee Sqn Ldr Parvez Jamasji (retd.), who was a 1971 Indo-Pak war hero died at 77, after a brief illness on 26th June 2020 in Mumbai. 
i.Jamasji is a resident of the Parsi Colony in Dadar. He started his service in 1965 and retired in 1985.
ii.He was a former Air Force officer and also a Helicopter pilot.
The Vir Chakra Citation:-
“ During the operations against Pakistan in December 1971, Flight Lieutenant Parvez Rustom Jamasji was serving with a helicopter unit. His Helicopter flown by him was attacked twice by machine gun and twice by mortars. He showed great presence of mind and brought back his aircraft to the base.
“On one occasion his helicopter had engine failure over an enemy position, but he brought it safely to a post within our territory. Throughout, Flight Lieutenant Parvez Rustom Jamasji displayed gallantry, professional skill and devotion to duty of a high order.”

i.On 23rd June 2020, Edappadi K.Palaniswami, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and Dharmendra Pradhan,Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Steel, inaugurates Compressed Bio-Gas(CBG) Plants at Namakkal and CBG Fuel Stations at Pudhuchattiram and Rasipuram over a virtual platform.
ii.The 15 Tonnes per Day (TPD) CBG plant of Namakkal is set up by the IOT Infrastructure and Energy Services, a joint venture between Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. and Germany’s Oiltanking GmbH at an expense of Rs. 25 crore

The Central Government has allocated 4125 crore rupees to Tamil Nadu for rejuvenating the Small, Medium and Tiny industries sector.

  • It forms 10% of the total allocation of the scheme, and the scheme is being effectively implemented in the state.

Various implementation for smart city schemes:

  • TN Chief Minister Edapadi K. Palanisamy has laid the foundation stone for 166 crore rupees Pilloor joint water supply scheme.
  • The newly redesigned Ukkadam pond and pedestrian amenities built at a cost of 39 crore rupees are opened to the public.

29.53 sq km Tillari Forest Area in Dodamarg and Sawantwadi Range Declared as Conservation Reserve Area: Maharashtra

Tillari declared as conservation reserveOn June 24, 2020 Maharashtra forest department declared the  29.53 square kilometre Tillari forest area in Dodamarg and Sawantwadi range in coastal Sindhudurg district as a conservation reserve area. The Tilari ecosystem breeds tiger population and serves as the source population for the Sahyadri tiger reserve.
Key Info

  • This is the 1st conservation reserve in Sindhudurg district, 62nd for the state. It is the 13th such reserve in the western ghats. 
  • Tillari will be the 7th corridor in the state announced as a ‘conservation reserve’.

Reason behind the declaration 
i.The decision was made considering the ecological, zoological and floral significance of the area, which will play a vital role in wildlife conservation, particularly for the movement of tigers.
ii.The region is known for tigers, elephants, leopards, bison, sambar deer, barking deer and chaushinga.
About Tillari conservation reserve
Location– It  is located near the border of Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka, which connects Mhadei sanctuary in Goa and Bhimgad in Karnataka.
Significance- Tillari reserve has semi-evergreen forest, tropical moist deciduous forests, and a number of unique trees, butterflies, and flowers.

India’s PCI to decline by 5.4% during 2020-21 to Rs 1.43 lakh: SBI report

As per the report by the economic wing of State Bank of India (SBI), Covid-19 pandemic is likely to bring down India’s per capita income(PCI) by 5.4% in the financial year 2020-21 (FY21) to Rs 1.43 lakh from Rs 1.52 lakh in FY20. Delhi, Chandigarh, and Gujarat will be the worst hit with PCI falling 15.4%, 13.9% and 11.6% respectively in FY21 among states.
