India to construct Rs 2.33 cr sanitation facility at Nepal’s iconic Pashupatinath Temple
i.India has extended its financial aid by NR (Nepalese rupee) 37.23 million(i.e. Equivalent of Rs.2.33 cr INR) for the construction of the sanitation facility for the pilgrims at the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu, Nepal. In this regard, a MoU has been inked between the Indian Embassy, Nepal’s Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
ii.It will be constructed under the Nepal-Bharat Maitri: Development Partnership.

India is 9th largest recipient of FDI in 2019 with $51 billion; US topped: UN-World Investment Report 2020
i.In accordance with the “World Investment Report 2020” by United Nation’s (UN) trade body, the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), India has become the 9th largest recipient of foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2019 after receiving $51 billion last year, an increase of 20% from the 42 billion dollars of FDI received in 2018.
ii.India is the largest South Asian recipient of FDI in 2019.
iii.The global FDI flows are forecast to decrease by up to 40% in 2020, from their 2019 value of $1.54 trillion.

Around 45 Million People Fall into Acute Food Insecurity Since February 2020 due to COVID-19: FAO Report
On June 16, 2020,According to the report titled “Policy Brief: The Impact of COVID-19 on Food Security and Nutrition” released by Italy based Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), around 45 million people were fall into acute food insecurity since February 2020 due to of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, of which a majority of 33 million people reside in South and Southeast Asia, and most of the remainder in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Key Points:
i.As per the report, the pandemic likely to cost $8.5 trillion in the next 2 years.
ii.In addition, more than 49 million may pushed into extreme poverty as majority of being affected again resides in Sub-Saharan Africa, due to the lack of measures taken to curb the disease, including lockdowns affected entire food supply chains.
iii.The report stressed to follow new models of food and nutrition distribution & requested to provide a cash-based assistance and live-saving food in the most fragile areas along with maintaining liquidity and financial inclusion in rural areas.

Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank Approves 2nd Loan of USD 750 Million under COVID-19 CRF to India
i.Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank(AIIB) approved a 2nd loan of USD 750 million to India under the bank’s USD 10 billion COVID-19 Crisis Recovery Facility(CRF); Till now India has received USD 1.25 billion dollar under the COVID-19 CRF.
ii.This loan is co-financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to assist India to fight against COVID-19 & its impact on the poor.
iii.The loan aims to strengthen India’s economic aid for businesses, expand social safety nets for the needy & the health care systems.

SEBI panel headed by Anil Dave suggested measures to strengthen enforcement of SEBI
i.In order to strengthen the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBIs) enforcement mechanism and also to improve its system of recovery of siphoned off money, the SEBI committee headed by former Supreme Court Judge Anil Dave has proposed a method of quantification of profit made by the defaulter and loss caused to investors
ii.The panel recommended amendment in Intermediaries Regulations to the SEBI. It has suggested that a two-tier enquiry process of registration for intermediaries should be replaced with an enquiry process for early completion of the enquiry proceedings

The tenure of former supreme court judge DK Jain as the ethics officer and ombudsman of Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) got a 1year extension in June 2020 due to the current covid-19 situation. He was the first-ever ombudsman of BCCI appointed by the supreme court in February 2019.

Maha Vir Chakra awardee & 1971 war hero Lt Gen Raj Mohan Vohra passed away at 88 due to COVID-19
On June 14, 2020 Maha Vir Chakra(MVC) awardee, Lieutenant general (Lt Gen) Raj Mohan Vohra passed away at 88 due to COVID-19. He was born in 1932 in Shimla.He received the MVC in 1972 for his role in the Battle of Basantar(Part of 1971 India-Pakistan war). He also received the Param Vishisht Seva Medal.
About Raj Mohan Vohra:
i.Raj Mohan Vohra was Commissioned into the Army in 1952 & retired in 1990. He also fought in the Punjab sector during the Indo-Pak War of 1965.
ii.In his initial years of his career he served in the Scinde Horse regiment & later commanded the 4th Horse(Hodson’s Horse- a unit of the Indian Army which originated as part of the British Indian Army) in the Shakargarh Sector during the Indo-Pak War of 1971.
iii.He was part of the 1st batch of the National Defence Academy, then the joint services wing of the Indian Military Academy, which started its training in 1949.
iv.He was the alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington.
Few prestigious appointments: General officer commanding in Chief(GOC-in-C) Eastern Command and GOC 31 Armoured Division.

Former Goa, Daman & Diu Minister Achyut Kashinath Sinai Usgaonkar passed away at 92
On June 16, 2020 Former Goa, Daman & Diu Cabinet Minister Achyut Kashinath Sinai Usgaonkar, passed away at 92 in the Goa Medical College and Hospital (located near Panaji) due to age-related ailments.
Key Points
i.He served as the cabinet minister in the Shashikala Kakodkar government from August 13, 1977 to April 27, 1979.
Achyut Kashinath Sinai Usgaonkar was the leader of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), the oldest regional group in Goa.
ii.He was the 1st MLA of Pale assembly constituency(one of the constituencies of Goa), comprising the present Sakhali constituency & part of Mayem constituency. He represented Pale constituency for 3 consecutive terms from 1963 to 1977
iii.Prior to serving as a minister, he was the deputy speaker of Goa during the Dayanand Bandodkar-led government. Bandodkar was the first chief minister of Goa, Daman & Diu.
Note– Goa, Daman, and Diu was a Union Territory(UT) of India from 19 December 1961 to 30 May 1987. In 1987, when Goa got statehood, Daman and Diu were made a separate UT.

AP, 1st Indian State presented its Budget amid COVID-19: Rs 2.24 lakh cr Budget publicized by Buggana Rajendranath for FY21
i.Finance Minister of Andhra Pradesh (AP) Buggana Rajendranath presented the AP state budget for Rs 2.24 lakh crore for the FY20-21.
ii.With this, AP became the first Indian state to convene its Legislative Assembly and Council which will adopt a budget for FY21 amid the Covid-19 pandemic. iii.Apart from this, AP Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan addressed the Assembly through video conference, which is also another first for the country.
A revenue receipts of Rs 1.61 lakh cr projected in FY2020-21 while revenue expenditure is estimated at Rs 1,80,392.65 crore.
