Govt to set up Anti-human-trafficking-units & women help desks across the country
On November 2, 2019, The govt of India is to set up and strengthen Anti-Human-Trafficking-Units (AHTUs) and Women Help Desks (WHDs) in police stations across the country for safety and security of women and girl victims of trafficking. The Empowered Committee (EC) under Nirbhaya Framework chaired by Rabindra Panwar, Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) recommended this proposal to the Ministry of Home Affairs(MHA).

IFFCO introduced India’s 1st nanotechnology-based products for on-field trials in Gujarat
On November 3, 2019, the world’s largest fertiliser cooperative- Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) introduced India’s 1st nanotechnology-based environment-friendly plant nutrition products by introducing nano- nitrogen, nano-zinc and nano-Copper for on-field trials at an event at Gujarat’s Kalol unit of IFFCO.

Manipur accounted for 50% of Northeast violence in 2018: Home Ministry report
On November 4, 2019, As per the “Annual report 2018- 2019”, released by Union Home Ministry, Government of India (GoI), the State of Manipur remained the most violent State accounting for about 50% of the total incidents in the region in 2018 with a total of 127 violent incidents as against the 252 incidents reported in entire NE (North East) states that includes Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.
i.However, Manipur witnessed a decline in insurgency related incidents by 24% (2017-167, 2018- 127) and Civilian deaths have recorded as being lowest from 23 in 2017 to 8 in 2018.

8th Indo German Energy Forum 2019 meet held in New Delhi
The 8th edition of the Indo – German Energy Forum (IGEF) was held on November 1, 2019 in New Delhi to deepen the strategic political dialogue regarding the ongoing energy transition in both countries. From the Indian side, it was co-chaired by Sanjiv Nandan Sahai, Secretary of power ministry while from the German side it was chaired by Mr. Christian Hirte, Secretary of State of the federal ministry of economic affairs and energy.

1st India-Uzbekistan Joint military Exercise – Dustlik-2019 begun at Chirchiq, Uzbekistan
The first-ever joint military exercise of India-Uzbekistan named “Dustlik-2019” from November 4-13, 2019, began at Chirchiq Training Area near Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The curtain raiser of the military drill was presided by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Uzbekistan counterpart Major General Bakhodir Nizamovich Kurbanov.
Focus: The key focus of this exercise is on counter-terrorism.

Guyana is expected to be fastest growing country in the world at 86% in 2020:IMF
On November 4 2019, According to International Monetary Fund (IMF), Guyana’s GDP is expected to grow at 86% in 2020 after expanding 4.4% in 2019.This growth expectation had done after Exxon Mobil Corp.’s discovery of oil at Guyana. The Guyana’s economy will grow more than three times within five years. Guyana’ GDP is to get fourteen times as fast as China’s GDP in 2020.
i.Exxon will start its first pumping from oil well at Guyana in December 2019. It will produce atleast 7,50,000 barrels in a day by 2025.

India’s GDP to grow 6.6% in 2020-24 according to OECD’s report
On November 2, 2019 the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development(OECD) in its report “Economic Outlook for Southeast Asia, China and India 2020: rethinking education for the digital era” has predicted that India is likely to grow at 6.6% in 2020-24, which is lower than the average of 7.4% of 2013-17.
Key Points:
i.India’s GDP growth will be more modest in the medium term of 2020-24. China’s GDP growth will continue to slow at 5.6% in the medium term from its 2013-17 average of 7.1%.
ii.Regional growth: Overall, the Southeast Asian region would grow at 5.7% on average in 2020-24 in contrast to 6.7% of 2013-17.
iii.The report was presented at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Bangkok, Thailand.

India’s unemployment rate in October 2019 climbed to a 3 year high of 8.5%: CMIE data
On November 1, 2019, According to data released by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), India’s unemployment rate in October 2019 increased to 8.5%, the highest level since August 2016, and up from 7.2% in September 2019.
The report further states that the urban unemployment rate stood at 8.9% in October 2019 while unemployment figures in rural areas reached 8.3%.
i.Tripura & Haryana states witnessed the highest unemployment levels of more than 20% while Tamil Nadu recorded lowest unemployment with 1.1%.
ii.The infrastructure output for the month of September 2019 in India’s contracted 5.2 % on a year-on-year (YoY ) basis, which is one of the worst performances in 14 years by the 8 core infrastructure industries….Click Here To Read More

U.S. based-Indian author Madhuri Vijay wins 2019 JCB prize for literature
On November 3, 2019, United States (US) based-Indian author Madhuri Vijay (27) has won India’s richest JCB (J.C. Bamford Excavators Ltd.) Prize for Literature 2019 for her debut novel ‘The Far Field’ at the award ceremony held at Rambagh Palace in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Vijay (from Bengaluru, Karnataka), a recipient of Henfield Prize and the Pushcart Prize, also received the Rs 25 lakh as the prize money, a sculpture by Delhi artist duo Thukral & Tagra entitled Mirror Melting.

i.The novel,published by Fourth estate India, sets a complex personal story against the backdrop of the conflict in the 1990s in Kashmir.
ii.In 2018, the JCB Prize for Literature was awarded to Jasmine Days by Benyamin, translated from Malayalam by Shahnaz Habib.

Real Kashmir FC’s BBC documentary receives ‘BAFTA Scotland’ award-2019 in Glasgow, Scotland
On November 4, 2019, A documentary on the Real Kashmir Football Club (RKFC), an Indian professional football club based in Srinagar, called “Real Kashmir FC” has been selected for the prestigious ‘British Academy of Field and Television Awards’ (BAFTA) 2019 award in the ‘Single Documentary’ category at a ceremony held in DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Glasgow Central , Glasgow, Scotland.
Key Points:
i.This one-hour documentary depicts the journey of former Rangers team star David Robertson as the coach of the Real Kashmir FC team. Under the guidance of Robertson, the team of Real Kashmir FC finished third in their first season in the I-League, the then top-class football league in India.
ii.This film, shown on BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation)Scotland 2019, was Directed by Greg C Clark.
iii.In their debut season in 2017-18, Real Kashmir FC performed brilliantly against a number of top teams including East Bengal and Mohun Bagan and scored 36 points in 19 matches.

On November 1, 2019, A private sector lender, IndusInd Bank has appointed its consumer banking head Suman Kathpalia, as its new Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He will replace Romesh Sobti, who will retire in March 2020.

Former President of FICCI & Industrialist K.K. Modi passes away at 79
On Nov 3, 2019, Former President of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Chairman of Modi Enterprises Krishnan Kumar Modi(K.K.Modi) passed away at the age of 79 in New Delhi. He was also the president of the Confederation of Asia-Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CACCI) from 2002 to 2006.He hailed from Patiala district, Punjab.
i.He was the eldest son of late Rai Bahadur Gujarmal Modi (founder of the city Modinagar).
ii.K.K.Modi’s eldest son, Lalit Modi,is an Indian businessman. He was the first Chairman and Commissioner of the Indian Premier League(IPL).
French Resistance member & Nazi camps survivor Yvette Lundy passed away at the age of 103
On November 3, 2019, French Resistance legend & Nazi camps survivor Yvette Lundy who helped Jewish prisoners of war to escape prison during the Nazi occupation of France, passed away at the age of 103 due to old age ailments in the northern French town of Epernay, France.
Key Points:
i.Born on 22 April 1916 in France, Yvette was made Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour, which is one of the highests decorations in France.
ii.She worked as a school teacher, and from 1940 she helped the prisoners to escape from the Nazi’s forced labour programme, known as Service du travail obligatoire-STO (English: Compulsory Work Service) programme.

i.He served as the Madras High Court judge from 1996 – 2007 & after retirement he served as the Chairman of committees on fixation of fee for self-financing professional colleges and polytechnics after retiring from service.
ii.He worked as senior counsel & arbitrator in Supreme Court (SC) of India for 11 years.

Vice-president Venkaiah Naidu releases Red atlas map & CFLOWS app for effective flood control in Chennai, Tamil Nadu
On November 3, 2019, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has released the 1st of its kind ‘Red Atlas Action Plan Map’ & ‘Coastal Flood Warning System App (CFLOWS-Chennai), to assist the Government of Tamil Nadu in effective control and reduction of floods, at the silver jubilee celebrations of the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, which witnessed severe flood in 2015.
Key Points:
i.The over 200-page atlas was prepared by the National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR), India Meteorological Department (IMD), and National Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) in association with Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Authority (TNSDMA) and Greater Chennai Corporation while CFLOWS app was developed by NIOT.
ii.The ‘Atlas’ mentions possible scenarios during different rainfall periods & provides information about corporation wards which are likely to be affected due to floods. Its objective is to effectively control and mitigate floods, preparedness, operations and management aspects. Punjab becomes the first state in the country to launch ‘job helpline’ for unemployed youth
On November 2, 2019, The Punjab Chief Minister(CM) Amarinder Singh has launched a first of its kind job helpline number 76260-76260 for the unemployed youth of the state under ‘Ghar Ghar Rozgar’ programme.
Key Points:
i.It will provide large scale employment opportunities to lakhs of youth across the state every year.
ii.The objective of this helpline is to reach every house in Punjab and it can be contacted on 75 thousand mobile numbers daily. In this process, a 110-seat call center of Punjab Job Helpline has also been created for the data to be prepared.
