PM Modi launched Rs 50,000 cr Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan to boost employment and livelihood for migrant workersPM Modi launches Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan

i.An employment -cum- rural public works Campaign for 67 lakh migrant workers titled “Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan (GKRA)” has been launched for 6 states viz. Bihar, Uttar Pradesh (UP), Madhya Pradesh (MP), Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the lines of the announcement made in Rs 20 Lakh crore Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. 
ii.The outlay of this campaign is Rs 50,000 Crores and Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) is the nodal Ministry for its implementation
iii.GKRA, the mission mode campaign of 125 days will cover 116 districts comprising more than 25,000 returnee migrant workers each across 6 states. Under this 25 public work areas have been identified for employment in villages.

Centre sanctions Rs 190 cr for augmentation of healthcare facilities in North Eastern StatesCentre sanctions Rs 190 cr for augmentation of healthcare facilities

i.Union Minister of State (MoS) of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Dr Jitendra Singh has sanctioned Rs 190 crore for augmentation of healthcare facility in the eight North Eastern (NE) States viz. of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Sikkim, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura for developing infrastructure for management of infectious diseases.
ii.Ministry of DoNER has also given the NE States the option to send proposals for health related projects to be funded up to over Rs 500 crore from North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS).
About NEISDS
Launched in 2017, NESIDS is a 100% centrally funded scheme to provide financial aid to the State Governments of NE Region for the projects of physical infrastructure.

CIL Joined Hands with NITI Aayog’s AIM to Boost Innovation Ecosystem in IndiaAtal Innovation Mission partners with Coal India Ltd

Coal India Limited (CIL),an Indian state-owned coal mining and refinery company, has entered into the partnership with NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog’s flagship initiative Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), to actively support the latter’s key innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives across India.
i.According to the SOI signed between the two, the partnership is classified as per the program in which CIL helped select Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) schools to adopt, conduct teacher training sessions to students.

15th Finance Commission Grants First installment of Rs.15187.50 cr to Rural Local Bodies (RLBs) 
First instalment of Fifteenth Finance Commission

i.The Fifteenth Finance Commission (XV FC) has submitted its interim report for the period FY 2020-21 and the Government of India has accepted its recommendations in respect of the Rural Local Bodies (RLBs). The commission has recommended the grant of Rs.60,750 cr for the period FY 2020-21 for RLBs which is the highest ever allocation made by the Finance Commission in any single year.
ii.On 17th June, 2020, Ministry of Finance (FinMin) has released the first installment of Rs.15187.50 crore, as grants-in-aid, in respect of 2.63 lakh RLBs located in 28 States of the country. This grants-in-aid forms part of the Untied Grant as recommended by XV-FC for the period FY 2020-21 and is to be used by RLBs for the location-specific felt needs.
iii.The other installment of Rs.15187.50 crore for RLBs as tied Grants is expected to be released shortly by the Ministry of Finance.

i.The United Nations World Food Programme (UNWFP) India and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi have joined hands to support state and national governments in achieving the food and nutrition security.
ii.The overall objective of this partnership is to use advanced analytics and operations research to develop practical solutions that support long term strategic planning of procurement, storage, and movement of food grains by agencies such as the Food Corporation of India (FCI).

Indian economist, philosopher and Nobel Laureate Amartya Kumar Sen (86) has been selected for 2020 Peace Prize by the Board of Trustees of the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade for his decades-long work around issues of global justice.

  • He will be presented with the award by German Publishers’ and Booksellers’ Association, Borsenverein in a ceremony that will take place on October 18, 2020, in Paulskirche, Germany.

Tata’s Natarajan Chandrasekaran Re-nominated as a Part-Time Non-Official Director on RBI Central boardTata Sons’ Chandrasekaran re-nominated

On June 21, 2020 As per  Reserve Bank of India(RBI)’s notification, Chairman of the Board of Tata Sons(since January 2017), Natarajan Chandrasekaran has been re-nominated  as a Part-Time Non-Official Director on RBI Central board for 2 years from 3rd March 2020 or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

  • The government had 1st  nominated him as the Director on RBI Central board for 4 years from March 4, 2016.

Various positions held by Natarajan Chandrasekaran:
i.The  Natarajan Chandrasekaran joined Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in 1987,  he became its Chief Executive Officer from 2009-17 , prior to which he was Chief Operating Officer (COO) and executive director of TCS
ii.He served as the chairman of Tata Motors and Tata Global Beverages(TGB). He has also served as the Chairperson of the Information and Communication Technology Industry Governors at the World Economic Forum, Davos in 2015-16.
iii. He served as the chairman of The National Association of Software and Service Companies(NASSCOM), the apex trade body for IT services firms in India in 2012-13.
RBI’s central board 
i.The Reserve Bank’s affairs is governed by a central board of directors(BoD). The board is appointed by the Government of India in line with the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934. 
ii.The central BoD consists of 21 members. Currently RBI’s central board has 15 directors, including the Governor and three Deputy Governors.

ISRO Receives Patent for Liquid Cooling and Heating Garment for Astronauts Isro receives patent

The ISRO has initiated a 10,000 crore project- Gaganyaan to send humans to space by 2022, in accordance to which, ISRO has received a patent for its Liquid Cooling and Heating Garment (LCHG) for astronauts to use in space for protection from hot and cold environments.

  • It is a close fitting long garment and use as a single lightweight comfort inner wear over which the flight suit is worn.
  • It is designed according to specification filed by the organisation with the Patent office in 2016.

Rajinder Goel, Domestic cricket stalwart passes away at 77Domestic-cricket-stalwart,left-arm-spinner-Rajinder-Goel-dies

On 21st June 2020, the Domestic cricket stalwart, Legendary first-class spinner Rajinder Goel who represented Haryana, Punjab and Delhi passed away at the age of 77 due to old age related illness at his residence in Rohtak, Haryana, India. He was born on 20th September 1942 in Punjab, British India (today’s Haryana).

Vir Chakra Awardee, Major General Lachhman Singh Lehl Passed Away at 97Maj Gen Lachhman Singh Lehl, renowned veteran

On 20th June 2020, Vir Chakra Awardee, retired Major General Lachhman Singh Lehl, passed away at the age of 97 in New Delhi. He was born in Hoshiarpur, Punjab.
Career:
i.He joined the Indian Military Academy(IMA) as a temporary commission officer and was commissioned to the 1st Field regiment on 11th July 1943.
ii.He took part in the 1948 war in Jhangar area of Jammu and Kashmir as a captain.
iii.He was the General Officer Commanding(GOC) of 20 Mountain Division of the Indian Army during the Indo-Pak war in 1971 and won the Battles of Hilli and Bogra in which Major General Nazir Hussein Shah of Pakistan surrendered to end the war.
iv.He was transferred to New Delhi as Deputy Quartermaster General in 1974 and retired on 11th July 1978.
Key Points:
i.He was one of the veterans who took part in the wars of both 1948 and 1971.
ii.He received the Vir Chakra, the third highest gallantry award in India for his role as a forward observer in the 50 Para Brigade.
iii.He authored “Missed Opportunities” a comprehensive book on the 1965 Indo-Pak war.

World Music Day 2020: June 21 World Music Day 2020

World Music Day(Fête de la Musique) is celebrated annually on June 21 around the world to honour amateur and professional musicians. The day aims to provide free music to everyone & to promote peace and spread goodwill through music.
Significance of the day:

Rajasthan Signs Pact With POWERGRID & EdCIL to Setup Smart Classrooms in 100 SchoolsEducational Consultants India Limited

i.Rajasthan Education Minister Govind Singh Dotasara informed that Rajasthan government has signed a tripartite agreement with the Power Grid Corporation of India(POWERGRID) and the Educational Consultants India Limited(EdCIL)
ii.To set up smart classrooms in 100 schools with a cost of Rs 1.85 crore.
iii.E-content syllabus will be available for students from classes  1 to 12. In each school 4 teachers will be trained to teach in the smart classrooms.
