i.“COVID BEEP”is an acronym for Continuous Oxygenation & Vital Information Detection Biomed ECIL ESIC Pod.
ii.It is a wireless physiological parameter monitoring system for Covid affected patients that can measure vital parameters like body temperature, blood oxygen saturation, heart rate, respiratory rate, ECG and blood pressure along with patient location.

Western Coalfields Ltd opened 3 new coal mines for Rs 849 cr; 100 MT coal production target by FY26-27
i.The three mines are Adasa Mine, an underground to open cast mine, in Nagpur Area of Maharashtra, Sharda underground Mine in Kanhan Area and Dhankasa underground mine in Pench Area of Madhya Pradesh.
ii.These three mines will have combined annual production capacity of 2.9 million tonnes (MT).
iii.WCL also has a sub-target of 75 MT of coal production by FY 23-24.

Govt changes public procurement rules, more preference to local suppliers
i.The objective behind this is to promote ‘Make in India’ and making the country self-reliant.
ii.In revised Public Procurement Order, 2017, a concept of Class-I, II and non-local suppliers was introduced based on which they will get preference in government purchases of goods and services.

On June 07, 2020, According to the biennial Environment Performance Index (EPI ) 2020 released jointly by Yale University and Columbia University, India has ranked 168 out of 180 countries with a score of 27.6 out of 100.While the Denmark has been topped the list with a score of 82.5.
i.The EPI provides a quantitative basis for comparing, analyzing, and understanding environmental performance of the countries based on 32 key sustainability indicators across 11 categories.

On June 07, 2020, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) has invested Rs 5,683.50 crore for a 1.16 % stake in Jio platforms, a subsidiary of Asia’s richest man Mukesh Ambani-controlled Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL).
i.With this investment, a total of Rs 97,885.65 crore has been invested for 21.06% equity in Jio platforms through 8 investments (Facebook, Silver Lake (2 investments), Vista Equity Partners, General Atlantic, KKR and Mubadala.

According to the research work published in the Journal of Alloys and Compounds, a team of Scientists from the International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI) has developed a magnetocaloric material (a rare-earth-based material that can be heated or cooled by applying or removing a magnetic field) that can be used in the treatment of cancer.

On 5th June 2020, Former Delhi police commissioner and former Governor of Mizoram, Manipur and Jharkhand, Ved Prakash Marwah, IPS, passed away at the age of 87 in a private hospital in Mapusa town in North Goa where he was admitted three weeks ago due to a fall. He was born on 15th September 1934 in Peshawar, British India.

On June 7, 2020 Kannada actor Chiranjeevi Sarja passed away at 39 due to a cardiac arrest at a private hospital in Bengaluru. He is the grandson of Kannada late actor Shakti Prasad & the nephew of multilingual actor Arjun Sarja.

i.Karnataka Revenue Minister R.Ashoka launched Meghasandesha App & Varunamitra web portal to provide real-time information and alerts on weather, rainfall, and flooding in Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike(BBMP) jurisdiction.
ii.These were developed by Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre(KSNDMC), in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science(IISc) under the project ‘Urban Flood Model’(UFM) for the city.
iii.The project is funded by The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India.

Madhya Pradesh has started a plantation drive named “Thank Mom” on the premises of its Social Justice and Disabled Welfare Directorate on World Environment Day. As per the instruction from Commissioner Renu Tiwari, a variety of plants such as Neem, Guava, Mango, Moonlight, Parijat and Tulsi were planted with a plate in the name of each employee’s mother.
