Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh launches COVID BEEP

Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr. Jitendra Singh launched the India’s 1st indigenous wireless physiological parameters monitoring system “COVID BEEP” (Continuous Oxygenation & Vital Information Detection Biomed ECIL ESIC Pod) for the COVID-19 affected patients.

  • Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) medical college, Hyderabad in collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Hyderabad, and Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) have developed the “COVID BEEP”.

About COVID BEEP:

It is a wireless physiological parameter monitoring system for Covid affected patients that can measure vital parameters like body temperature, blood oxygen saturation, heart rate, respiratory rate, ECG and blood pressure along with patient location. The app remotely displays these parameters on a mobile phone, laptop, desktop computer, for monitoring by a doctor, from any place which will help in an easier diagnosis and rendering timely treatment.

The latest version of COVID BEEP has incorporated the following:

  • Non-Invasive Blood Pressure (NIBP) monitoring: Affected aged people have the highest death rates in COVID-19. Hence, NIBP monitoring becomes imperative in this context.
  • Electrocardiography (ECG) monitoring: The drugs used as prophylaxis and /or treatment like Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin etc. have effects on heart and hence the importance of ECG monitoring.
  • The Respiratory Rate: Is calculated by Bio Impedance method.
