Formal Jobs in India Increases by 28.6% to 78.58 Lakh in 2019-20: EPFOFormal employment in India grew

According to the payroll data of EPFO (Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation), the formal employment in India saw an 28.6 % increase at 78.58 lakh in 2019-20 as compared to only 61.12 lakh added in 2018-19.

  • The main reason for this is the low withdrawal by EPFO ​​subscribers due to the government’s policy reforms such as implementing GST, allowing fixed income contracts as well as better returns on PF (Provident Fund) deposits.

India elected for 8th term as non-permanent member of UN Security Council for 2021 & 2022; will hold presidency in August, 2021
India elected non-permanent member

i.India was elected unopposed for a 8th term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for two years (2021 & 2022) starting January 2021 by gaining  184 votes in the 193-member General Assembly. 
ii.India was the only candidate for the lone seat from the Asia-Pacific category & India will hold the Presidency of the council in August 2021.
iii.India has previously been elected as a non-permanent member of the Council for the years 1950 & 1951, 1967 & 1968, 1972 & 1973, 1977 & 1978, 1984 & 1985, 1991 & 1992 and most recently in 2011 & 2012.

RBI Proposes New Rules for Housing Finance Companies; Increases Min NOF to Rs 20crRBI proposes new rules

i.On June 17, 2020, RBI being a new regulator of housing finance companies (HFCs) has proposed changes to be prescribed for HFCs with an aim to increase their efficiency and address concerns of liquidity and double financing.
ii.Non-deposit (ND) taking HFCs (HFC-ND) with asset size of Rs 500 crore & above; and all deposits taking HFCs (HFC-D), irrespective of asset size, will be treated as systemically important HFCs.
iii.Housing loans must account for at least 50% of HFCs’ assets of which at least 75% should be towards individual housing loans. HFCs which do not fulfil this criterion will be treated as NBFC – Investment and Credit Companies (NBFC-ICCs)

SEBI amends SEBI (SAST) Regulations, 2011 to enhance promoter’s shareholdingSebi amends regulations raise funds

i.After exercising the powers conferred under section 30 of the Securities and Exchange Board of India Act, 1992 (15 of 1992), the board of SEBI has amended the regulation 3, in sub-regulation (2) of Securities and Exchange Board of India (Substantial Acquisition of Shares and Takeovers) Regulations, 2011 (SEBI-SAST) to enhance the acquisition limit for promoters of a listed company. 
ii.The amendment allows promoters owning 25% or more of the shares or voting rights in a company to increase his shareholding by upto 10% in a year in comparison to the earlier 5% limit.

On June 17, 2020 Kubatbek Boronov(55)  was appointed as Kyrgyzstan’s Prime Minister. Kyrgyzstan’s President Sooronbai Jeenbekov signed an order to appoint him. He succeeded Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziyev who resigned on June 15 following accusations of corruption.

i.Kyrgyzstan’s parliament approved the candidacy of Kubatbek Boronov with 105 votes out of 116.
ii.Kubatbek Boronov has served as the first deputy prime minister(since April 2018) in the previous cabinet and also was the former Emergency Minister(from 2011 to 2018) 
iii.Kyrgyzstan parliamentary elections are expected to take place in October 2020.
iv.Since 2010, the country had 9 different prime ministers including Kubatbek Boronov.

NASA Scientists Observe Bose-Einstein Quantum “Fifth State of Matter” in Space For The First TimeFifth state of matter observed by the scientists

On June 11, 2020, According to the research published in the journal Nature, a team of scientists at NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration)’s Cold Atom Lab (CAL), have found for the first time in space the evidence of ‘Fifth State of Matter’ (also known as Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC).
This special state of matter occurs when the atoms of some elements are cooled to absolute zero (0 Kelvin or -273.15 ° C).

  • It is to be noted that, the existence of BEC was first predicted by great scientist Albert Einstein and Indian mathematician Satyendra Nath Bose, almost 100 years ago in early 1920.

Telangana Govt Issues Ordinance to Defer Payment of Employees, PensionersTelangana brings ordinance on deferment of salaries and pensions

Amid the ongoing fight against Coronavirus (COVID-19), the state Government of Telangana has promulgated the Telangana Disaster and Public Health Emergency (Special Provisions) Ordinance 2020 which allowed it to defer salaries and pensions of its employees, pensioner, institution, any person (ready contract or outsourcing employees) in the State.
i.The Ordinance enables the government to defer payment of government employees to the extent not exceeding half (50 %) the total monthly payment. While, all India Service officers’ salaries have been cut by 60%.
