Fifth state of matter observed by the scientistsOn June 11, 2020, A team of scientists at US (United States) based Space agency NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration)’s Cold Atom Lab (CAL), have found for the first time in space the evidence of ‘Fifth State of Matter’ (also known as Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC). They believe that through this will help in solving some of the quantum puzzles of quantum universe the kernels of the universe can be solved and its origin can also be traced.

  • It is to be noted that, the existence of BEC was first predicted by great scientist Albert Einstein and Indian mathematician Satyendra Nath Bose, almost 100 years ago in early 1920. This experiment has been done at the International Space Station (ISS).

When is the fifth state of matter formed?

This special state of matter occurs when the atoms of some elements are cooled to absolute zero (0 Kelvin or -273.15 ° C). Due to this, all the atoms of that element start working together as a single unit to become one, that is, super atom. This is called the fifth state of matter. In any substance, its atoms move at different speeds, but in the fifth state of matter there is only one big atom and waves are raised in it.

BEC study on earth is impossible:

As per the Scientists, the BEC is extremely sensitive. If its state is disturbed even slightly, they can become hot, as they are always at the absolute zero temperature. The fifth state of the substance will end when it is heated even slightly. Because of this, studying them on Earth is almost impossible.

Four states of matter: There are four states of matter namely Solid, Fluid, Gas and Plasma. Plasma is the gaseous state, but it is ionized.
