Medicines from the Sky project: Telangana became 1st Indian State to launch BVLoS drones to send medicinesi.On September 11, 2021, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Ministry of Civil Aviation launched ‘Medicines from the Sky (MFTS)’ in Vikarabad district of Telangana to send medicines to primary healthcare centres using drones. With this Telangana became the first Indian state to use drones for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLoS) to deliver the payload.
ii.MFTS is an initiative of the Government of Telangana led by the emerging technologies wing of Telangana’s IT Department in association with World Economic Forum (WEF), NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog, and HealthNet Global (Apollo Hospitals).

India hosted First-Ever 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue with Australiai.On September 11, 2021, India hosted the 1st ever 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue with Australia in New Delhi. In this regard, Australia’ s Marise Payne, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Women and Peter Dutton, Minister of Defence Minister visited India.
ii.From the Indian side it was attended by Union Ministers Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), and Rajnath Singh, Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Over half of farm households still under debt: NSO Reporti.In accordance with the National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, ‘Situation Assessment of Agricultural Households and Land Holdings of Households in Rural India, 2019’ released on September 10, 2021, more than half of India’s agricultural households were in debt, with an average outstanding of Rs 74,121 in 2018 as compared to Rs 47,000 in 2013, an increase of 57.7%.
ii.The data based on the 77th round of survey of more than 45,000 such households conducted January 1-December 31, 2019.
iii.The survey theme was “Land and Livestock Holdings of Households and Situation Assessment of Agricultural Households” in the rural areas of India.

PM Modi Inaugurated Sardardham Bhavan in Ahmedabad, Gujarat Narendra Modi, Prime Minister(PM) of India inaugurated the Sardardham Bhavan at Ahmedabad, Gujarat virtually. It was built at a cost of Rs.200 crore by Vishwa Patidar Samaj, a business, social and education hub for the Patidar community.
- He also performed the Bhoomi puja of Sardardham Phase II Kanya Chhatralaya(girl’s hostel), a hostel facility for around 2000 girls irrespective of their economic criteria.
- It will be built at the cost of another Rs 200 crore.
Sardardham Bhavan(Ahmedabad):
i.Sardardham Bhavan is built over an area of 11,672 square feet to boost the residential facility for students with notable modern facilities.
Sardardham Project:
i.Sardardham is working towards the educational and social transformation and upliftment of weaker sections of society.
ii.It is also working towards providing employment opportunities to the youths and helping the aspiring and patriotic students by providing the facility of training, boarding and lodging.
Modi Announced Subramania Bharati chair at BHU for Tamil Studies:
i.PM Modi announced the setting up of the Subramania Bharati chair in the memory of Legendary Tamil Poet Subramania Bharati at the Banaras Hindu University(BHU) for Tamil Studies.
ii.The chair has been established on the occasion of the 100th death anniversary of Subramania Bharati(11th September 2021).

INS Tabar conducts maritime exercise with Sudanese NavyIndian navy and Sudan Navy had conducted the bilateral maritime exercise in the Red Sea off the Sudanese coast. India Navy Ship (INS) Tabar and two Sudanese Navy ships- Almazz and Nimer- participated in the maiden exercise.
Activities involved in the exercise
i.The exercise consists of multiple activities covering a wide range of naval operations.
ii.These included co-ordinated maneuvering, replenishment at sea RAS drills, Helo operations, operations for interdicting suspect vessels at sea and communication procedures.
iii. The exercise enhanced interoperability between the two navies significantly and widened the scope for combined operations against common maritime threats in future.
iv.According to naval customs, exercise ended with a ‘steam past’ between naval vessels.

DBS partners with SWIFT for real-time cross-border Payment TrackingDBS in partnership with Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications (SWIFT) Global Payments Innovation(GPI) has launched real-time online tracking for cross-border collections for businesses in India benefitting around 4,000 corporate and small business clients.
- DBS became the first bank in India and Asia-Pacific to offer this service to its clients.
- DBS was also the first bank in Asia to launch outbound payments with end-to-end tracking with SWIFT gpi.

i.The incoming payment tracking will help the corporate treasures with better cash forecasting by receiving the end-to-end tracking information reducing operational costs and frictions.
ii.It brings transparency and visibility and improves receivables forecasting and overall cash position.
iii.It also helps in improving accuracy for intraday credit line needs and provides benefits in supporting credit control.
iv.This service is available by default and free of charge for all corporate customers via DBS IDEAL- DBS’ online corporate banking portal.

i.The initiative is part of SWIFT’s vision towards a future of instant and frictionless account-to-account cross-border payments.

PPBL Enabled India’s 1st FASTag-based Metro Parking Facility in Partnership with DMRCPaytm Payments Bank Ltd (PPBL) enables India’s first FASTag based metro parking facility in partnership with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
- PPBL, the acquiring bank for the parking facility at Kashmere Gate Metro Station, will facilitate the processing of all FASTag based transactions for cars with valid FASTag stickers.
- Additionally, PPBL has also enabled a UPI based payment solution for 2 wheelers, that enters the parking facility.
Key Points:
i.The parking facility of Kashmere Gate metro station becomes the first facility to be powered by the digital payment solution of PPBL.
ii.PPBL is also working with various municipal corporations across Delhi to initiate FASTag based parking facilities in both organised and unorganised sites.
iii.PPBL also aims to implement digital payment solutions for the parking facilities at malls, hospitals and airports.
Background:
i.In July 2021, India’s first FASTag/UPI based cashless parking facility was launched at the Kashmere Gate Metro Station, the only triple-interchange station of DMRC.
ii.DMRC partnered with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to launch a 100% digital parking plaza with the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) FASTag contactless parking solution at Kashmere Gate metro station, Delhi.

India’s largest Open-Air Fernery Developed in Ranikhet, UttarakhandIndia’s largest Open-air Fernery, consisting 120 different varieties of ferns, was inaugurated by the famous expert on Pteridophyte (Ferns), Dr Nilambar Kunetha in Ranikhet, Uttrakhand.However, it is the country’s first open-air fernery in natural surroundings which is not under any poly-house/ shade house.
- The fernery has the largest collection of fern species, second to only Jawaharlal Nehru Tropical Botanical Garden and Research Institute (TBGRI), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
Objective–
To conserve and protect various ferns and species and to spread awareness about its ecological values.
About the Ranikhet Fernery-
i.It was developed by the research wing of Uttarakhand Forest Department, under Central Government’s Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) scheme. It takes 3 years to complete.
ii.The fernery is spread around an area of 4 acres at an altitude 1800m.

Researchers Discover Earth’s Northernmost Island Off GreenlandA team of researchers discovered a new island, the northernmost point of land on Earth, off the coast of Greenland during a Danish-Swiss research expedition. This island was revealed by the movement of the ice.
- The island was discovered by a group of 6 scientists, working with the Arctic Station research facility in Greenland, who set out to collect the samples from Oodaaq island, which was discovered by a Danish survey group in 1978.
- The researchers proposed to name the island “Qeqertaq Avannarleq”, which means ‘the northernmost island’ in Greenlandic.
About the island:
i.The newly discovered island measuring around 30 by 60 metres in size is the closest point of land to the North pole.
ii.The island is located 780 metres northwest of Oodaaq.
iii.It is made up of mud from the ocean and rock soil from the glaciers.
Note:
To qualify as an island, the piece of land has to remain above sea level at high tide, failing to do so it would remain a bank.

Daniel Ricciardo wins 2021 Italian Grand PrixOn 12th September 2021, McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo (Australia) won the 2021 Italian Grand Prix, making his 1st victory since 2018, notably this is McLaren’s 1st win after 9-years. Ricciardo was closely followed by McLaren’s Lando Norris and Mercedes Valtteri Bottas finishing the race in 2nd and 3rd position.
i.World No.1 racer Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes collided with his close rival Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing on the 26th Lap while attempting an overtake in the F1 race.

- South-South cooperation refers to the technical cooperation among developing countries in the Global South.

i.The United Nations General Assembly(UNGA) adopted the resolution A/RES/58/220 on 23rd December 2003 and proclaimed the 19th December of every year as the United Nations Day for South-South Cooperation.
ii.December 19 marks the day on which UNGA endorsed the Buenos Aires Plan of Action for Promoting and Implementing Technical Cooperation among Developing Countries.
iii.In 2011, the UNGA moved the date of UN Day for South-South Cooperation from 19th December to 12th September.

i.Subramania Bharati, popularly known as Mahakavi Bharati, was born on 11th December 1882 in Ettayapuram (now Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu).
ii.At the age of 11, he was conferred the title of “Bharati” by the Raja of Ettayapuram.
iii.He worked as a journalist in various newspapers such as The Hindu, Bala Bharata, Vijaya, Swadesamitran and India.
v.At the age of 38, he died on 11th September 1921 in Madras (now Chennai, Tamil Nadu).
