Migrants facing job loss amid lockdown to get health insurance under AB-PMJAYMigrants to get health insurance under Ayushman Bharat

i.Indian government extended its health insurance scheme Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) for migrant workers facing unemployment, across states.
ii.In this regard, the implementing agency of AB-PMJAY, National Health Authority (NHA) is coordinating with the states to identify the eligible beneficiaries under the scheme so that e-cards will be issued to them.
About AB-PMJAY:
Launched on 23rd September, 2018, it provides health cover of up to Rs 5 lakhs per family per year, for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization to over 10.74 crore poor and vulnerable families (about 53 crore beneficiaries). It is a cashless and paperless scheme implemented by NHA.

Vice-Admiral Atul Kumar Jain of ENC inaugurates a Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle Complex in Vizag

Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle Complex inauguratedi.Vice Admiral Atul Kumar Jain, flag officer commander in chief of the Eastern Naval Command(ENC) inaugurated a Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle (DSRV) complex in Vishakapattanam. 
ii.The DSRV is designed to accommodate the new Submarine Rescue System with state of the art facilities to store DSRV assets in a rescue ready state and also provide rescue cover for the submarines on the eastern and western coasts.

Centre approved funds for implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission in Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand & West BengalGovt approves RS 1280 cr for implementation Jal jeeven Mission

i.Govt approves Rs 1280 cr for implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission in Madhya Pradesh

  • With an amount of Rs 244.95 Crore as unspent balance and this year’s Central allocation and matching State share, Rs 3,093 Crore will be available with the State this year.

ii.Government of India approved Rs 572 Crore for implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission in Jharkhand

  • With opening balance of Rs. 201 Crore available with the State and along with this year’s allocation of Rs. 572.24 Crore, Jharkhand has assured availability of Rs.773.28 Crore as Central fund. Considering the State matching share, a total of Rs. 1,605.31 Crore will be available under JJM.

iii.Central Government pushes for 100% household tap connections in rural areas of West Bengal

  • With an opening balance of Rs. 1,146.58 Crore, the State has an assured availability of Rs. 2,757.34 Crore of Central share funds. Therefore, in 2020-21, along with State share about Rs. 5,515 Crore will be available under JJM to provide household tap connections.

About JJM:
It aims to enable every rural household has assured availability of potable water at a service level of 55 litres per capita per day (lpcd) on regular and long-term basis.

HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal releases 5th edition of NIRF Rankings 2020; IIT Madras tops the list of ‘overall category’

IIT Madras, IISc Bangalore and IIT Delhi emerge as top three institutionsOn June 11, 2020, The Union Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD) Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has virtually released 5th edition of National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Ranking 2020, which accounted 5805 institutes for the ranking based on 10 categories namely- Overall, Universities, Engineering, Colleges, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Dental Architecture, and Law.
i.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras (Tamil Nadu) has topped the list of ‘overall ranking’ category with a score of 85.31 followed by Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru  and Indian Institute of Technology Delhi.

Gir Sanctuary Gujarat’s Asiatic Lion population  risen to 29% in 5 years; “Poonam Avlokan” survey 

Roaring successi.The population of the Asiatic lion at the Gir sanctuary in Gujarat was surveyed with the help of Poonam Avlokan exercise, which showed an increase in the Lion population to 29% in 2020 from 27% in 2015 Also, the distribution area of the lions was also increased to 36% from 22,000sq Km in 2015 to 30,000 sq Km in 2020.
ii.The Asiatic lions are found in protected areas and agro-pastoral regions of Saurashtra covering about 9 districts in the Gir forest.

The Gir National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Junagadh district of Gujarat.It is the largest compacted dry deciduous forest in the western region of India. It was declared a sanctuary in 1965.

‘Turant customs’ a flagship programme launched in Bengaluru and Chennai by CBIC

CBIC launches its flagship programmei.The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) launched a flagship programme, “Turant customs” at Bengaluru and Chennai to have a technology-supported faster clearance of imported goods for the ease of doing business & is expected to be completed by December 31, 2020.
ii.It will eliminate routine interface with the Customs officers and provide uniform assessment across the country that would benefit the importers also allowing a paperless transaction.

Mercer’s 26th Annual ‘Cost of Living Survey 2020 ‘: Mumbai ranks 60th globally, 19th in Asia

Mumbai most expensive Indian city for expatsOn June 10, 2020, Mercer released its 26th Annual Cost of Living Survey 2020. From India, Mumbai city has been ranked 60th most expensive city globally and also 19th in Asia. Mumbai is the only Indian city ranked in the top 100. Hongkong tops the list globally.
Mercer’s 26th annual  Cost of Living Survey will help employers navigate non-native packages, essential due to uncertainty from the COVID-19 pandemic and consider alternate forms of international assignments to sustain overseas operations.

  • The survey includes over 400 cities throughout the world; this year’s ranking includes 209 cities across five continents.
  • It measures the comparative cost of more than 200 items in each location, including housing, transportation, food, clothing, household goods, and entertainment.

Note: New York City is used as the base city for all comparisons and currency movements are measured against the US dollar.

India’s economy is predicted to -7.3% for FY 21 due to 2nd wave of COVID-19:OECD’s June 2020 EO

contract by as much as 7i.India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for FY 2020-2021 predicted at -3.7% which can further decelerate to -7.3% in case of a second Covid-19 outbreak.
ii.On global front, report has projected sharp 6% contraction in FY21 followed by a strong 5.2% rebound in FY21-22. In case of double-hit scenario, a steep contraction of 7.6% is expected for FY21 and 2.8% rebound in FY22.
iii.It should be noted that EO, June 2020 has assumed an implementation of shutdowns in the December 2020 quarter (Q3), following another surge of the COVID-19 virus. This assumption is regarded as a double-hit scenario.

World Champion BoxerOn 10th June 2020, the 33-year-old Ukrainian lightweight boxing champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk also known as “The Nail” announced his retirement. He was born on 15th April 1987 in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

i.He won the Bronze medal in the 2012 Olympic games.
ii.He won the 2018 World Boxing Councils(WBCs) light heavyweight world title against Adonis Stevenson in Quebec.
iii.He lost the 2019 championship against Artur Beterbiev, Russian fighter which was the only loss in his pro career (17-1).
iv.He was the Former light heavyweight champion of North American Boxing Federation(NABF).

Manchester United’s former defender Tony Dunne passed away at 78

Tony DunneOn 8th June 2020, Former defender of Manchester United Tony Dunne, passed away at the age of 78. He was born on 25th July 1941 in Dublin, Ireland.

i.He joined Manchester United at the age of 18 in 1960 and debuted on 16th October 1960 against Burnley (A) league.
ii.He was a part of the winning side of the European Cup in 1968.
iii.He played for 13 years and won the first division championships in 1965 and 1967 and the FA cup against Leicester in 1963.
iii.He made 535 appearances for Manchester United and scored only 2 goals.
Achievements:
i.He was capped 33 times by the Republic of Ireland.
ii.He won the Irish Footballer of the year award in 1969.

Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy launches ‘Jagananna Chedodu’ scheme 

Andrapradesh yojanai.Andhra Pradesh(AP) Chief Minister(CM) Yeduguri Sandinti(YS) Jagan Mohan Reddy launched the ‘Jagananna Chedodu’ scheme to provide financial assistance to tailors, barbers and dhobis(washermen).
ii.Under the scheme, Rs 10,000 per person was provided to 2.47 lakh washermen(82,347), barbers(38,767) and tailors(1,25,926).
iii.In total Rs.247 crore was transferred to their bank accounts under financial liability so that bankers cannot use the money to offset the loan repayment balances.

Maharashtra cabinet approves to rename its Environment Ministry as Environment and Climate Change Ministry

Maharashtra renames its environment ministryOn the occasion of World Environment Day ( June 05, 2020), the Maharashtra cabinet chaired by its Chief Minister (CM) Uddhav Bal Thackeray has approved a proposal to rename the state’s Environment Ministry as ‘Environment and Climate Change Ministry’ with the aim to play an active role in climate change mitigation.

  • The department, which is handled by Shiv Sena MLA ( Member of the Legislative Assembly) Aaditya Thackeray, will work on five elements of the nature (earth, water, fire, air, and space).

3rd Phase of saunii.Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani announced the phase 2 and phase 3 of the Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation (SAUNI ) scheme (inaugurated in 2016 by Prime Minister Modi in Gujarat) to fill 115 dams with Narmada water by August 15,2020 and March ,2021 respectively in GandhiNagar,Gujarat.
ii.The state government spent Rs 14,707 crores for the scheme to provide irrigation and drinking water to the saurashtrian regions.

i.Himachal Pradesh(HP) Chief Minister(CM) Jai Ram Thakur launched ‘Panchvati Yojana’ for the senior citizens of rural areas of the state.

The highest ever allocation of funds worth Rs. 1,01,500 made under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in the current Financial Year(FY) 2020-2021. A sum of Rs. 31,493 crore has already been released in 2020-21, which is more than 50 percent of budget estimation of current Financial Year 2020-21.
