Odisha Launches 1st of its kind scheme, ‘Balaram’ to provide Rs 1,040 crore credit to 7 lakh Landless Farmers
On July 3, the Government of Odisha launched 1st of its kind scheme, ‘Balaram’ to provide agricultural credit of Rs 1,040 crore to landless farmers facing hardships during COVID 19.The Scheme is designed in collaboration with National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).
Key Points:
- In the next two years around seven lakh cultivators will be benefitted by ‘Balaram’.
- 1.40 lakh JLGs will cover seven lakh landless cultivators in two years.
- The field level agricultural workers will get a credit of Rs 1,040 crore under ‘Balaram’.
- The banking sector will be mobilised through the State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) for extending credit support to farmers and sharecroppers who don’t get loans due to lack of resources.

M.V Asiatic Moon : A New Shipping Service b/w Kolkata Port & Chattogram Begins to Ease Indo-Bangla Trade
On July 03, 2020, Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMP) [erstwhile Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT)] has started a new shipping service between Kolkata Dock System (KDS) and Chattogram (Bangladesh) through Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route to transport containers with the aim to increase the Indo-Bangla trade.
- The Container Ship ‘M.V Asiatic Moon (Singapore Flag) is expected to transport 300 containers of Indian exports to Bangladesh.

Indian railways and RailTel signs MoU to provide video surveillance at 6,049 stations across country
The Indian Railways and RailTel signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for installation of an IP-based video surveillance system at 6,049 railway stations across the country.This is a part of Digital India initiative.
Key Points:-
- The Video Surveillance System (VSS) will be provided by RailTel, a public sector undertaking.
- The VSS will work in 6,049 stations under A1, A, B, C, D and E of Indian Railways.
- The Scope includes integration of existing standalone CCTV networks of the railways into VSS systems for centralised monitoring.
- Railtel has provided CCTV cameras at the entry and exit points of 54 railway stations to facilitate the running of Shramik trains.
- The video recorded from the CCTV cameras will be stored for 30 days for analysis and investigation purposes.
- The cameras are covered with inclusion analytics and facial recognition systems.

Record 53.6 mt of E-waste Dumped Globally in 2019; India Positioned 3rd, China Tops: UN Global E-waste Monitor 2020 Report
i.In accordance with “3rd edition of The Global E-waste Monitor 2020 report-Quantities, flows, and the circular economy potential” report, the world dumped a record 53.6 million tonnes of e-waste in 2019, an increase of 21% in 5 years.
ii.China is the biggest contributor to e-waste with 10.1 million tonnes (mt) followed by the United States (US) with 6.9 mt and India with 3.2 mt at 2nd and 3rd rank respectively.
iii.This report is jointly prepared by the Global E-waste Statistics Partnership (GESP), formed by UN University (UNU), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA), in close collaboration with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

-E-waste is a health and environmental hazard because it contains toxic additives or hazardous substances such as mercury which damages the human brain and / or coordination system.
–India is the only country in South Asia to draft legislation for e-waste.

On July 03, 2020, Edelweiss Asset Management Company (AMC) has decided to bring the second installment of the Bharat Bond ETF (Exchange Traded Fund) with two new series having maturities of 5 years (April 2025) and 11 years (April 2031) to raise Rs 14,000 crore.
The second batch is due to be launched on 14 July 2020 & the consignment will close on 17 July 2020. It will invest only in AAA-rated bonds of Public Sector companies.

ii.KKR will make the investment through its subsidiaries, Tau Investments Holdings Pte. Ltd., Tau Holdco Pte. Ltd., and KKR Asia III Fund Investments Pte.

India’s Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) Captured the Image of Mars’ moon Phobos
i.On July 3, 2020, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) released the picture of the closest and biggest moon of Mars named “Phobos” which was captured by Mars Colour Camera (MCC) onboard India’s Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM). The image was taken on July 1, 2020 when MOM was about 7200 km from Mars and at 4200 km from Phobos.
ii.The spatial resolution of the image is 210 m.
iii.Stickney, the largest crater on Phobos, along with the other craters (Shklovsky, Roche & Grildrig) were also visible in the image.

i.Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and education minister Manish Sisodia launched an e- portal, ‘Learning through E-Resources Made Accessible for Delhi’(LEAD) for its students to strengthen the children’s online education.
ii.The e- portal contains 10,000 instructional materials and course content for Classes I to XII.
iii.It is developed by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), the Delhi government.
iv.The state government will upload its curriculum and share teaching-learning material on the ministry of Human Resource Development’s(HRD) online platform, DIKSHA through this portal.
