Himachal Pradesh has received National Award in recognition of its remarkable contribution in the field of renewable energy. The award was presented to Power minister Sujan Singh Pathania during RE-INVEST 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Himachal Pradesh has been implementing various programmes such as small hydroelectric projects, solar water heaters and photo-voltaic lights to popularize the renewable energy sources. A 200 kilowatt solar power plant was successfully installed at Baru Sahib University in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. More than 51,000 solar lights have been installed in the snowbound and hard areas of the state.
