UP Emerge as Top Domestic Tourists Destination in 2019 & Secures 3rd Rank in Attracting Foreign Tourists in 2019: ITS 2020UP emerged as top tourist destination in 2019

As per, Ministry of Tourism annual publication titled  ‘India Tourism Statistics(ITS) at a Glance – 2020’, Uttar Pradesh(UP), tops the Domestic Tourist Visits list 2019, with ~53.6 crore tourists ( i.e., 23.1% of the total domestic tourists travellers visited in 2019). UP was followed by Tamil Nadu(~49.4 crore tourists) & Andhra Pradesh(~23.7 crore tourists).

  • Similarly, in terms of Foreign Tourist Visits list 2019, TamilNadu tops the list, with ~ 68 lakh foreign tourists, i.e, 21.9 % of the total travellers visited in 2019. TamilNadu was followed by Maharashtra(~55 lakh tourists) and  UP(~ 47 lakh tourists).

India Meteorological Department Dedicated 1st “Flash Flood Guidance Services” for South AsiaIndia Meteorological Department Commissions Flash Flood Guidance Services for South Asia

i.On October 23, 2020, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has dedicated first of its kind “Flash Flood Guidance services (FFGS)” for South Asian countries namely India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and Sri Lanka to issue impact-based forecasting of floods.  
ii.It was launched by Dr. M. Rajeevan, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, who was the chief guest of a virtual event which was attended by distinguished National and International dignitaries.
iii.It will provide the necessary products in real-time to support the development of warnings for flash floods about 6-12 hours in advance at the watershed level with resolution of 4km x 4km for the flash flood prone South Asian countries.

Banks to Deploy on-tap TLTRO funds in 5 sectors; NBFCs wrote to RBI to include them as BeneficiariesBanks can deploy on-tap TLTRO funds in agriculture, retail and MSMEs

i.On October 9, 2020, during a Bi-Monthly Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) 2020-2021 meeting Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced to conduct on-tap targeted long-term repo operations (TLTRO) worth Rs 1 lakh crore with tenors of up to three years at a floating rate linked to the policy repo rate till March 31, 2021. ii.Then on October 21, 2020, the apex bank has informed that banks can deploy money drawn from this TLTRO in Five sectors – agriculture, agri-infrastructure, secured retail, MSMEs (Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises), drugs, pharmaceuticals and healthcare.
iii.The above mentioned TLTRO has not covered Non-banking financial companies (NBFCs),  therefore Finance Industry Development Council (FIDC), a representative body of (NBFCs) wrote a letter to the RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das asking for the same.

i.World Bank sanctions ~Rs 3 crore for Goa to develop India’s first sand dune parks as the World Bank (WB) has approved a proposal drafted by the Goa state biodiversity board for the same.
ii.The idea of parks to preserve sand dunes was first mooted by former National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) scientist and ex-member of the Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) Antonio Mascaren who has been now appointed as the principal investigator for the project, with Dr. Pradip Sarmokadam acting as the co-investigator.
iii.As of now Mandrem, Miramar, Agonda Morjim and Galibaga are identified for sand dune parks. More beaches can be added in the list in future. Morjim and Galibaga beaches are known for their turtle-nesting site.

ii.The card functions as a credit card and also as a metro smart card.
iii.Mangu Singh, Managing Director(MD) of DMRC and Ashwini Kumar Tewari, MD & CEO(Chief Executive Officer) jointly launched the card in the presence of other senior officials from DMRC and SBI Card.

Union Minister of State (MoS) for Jal Shakti, Rattan Lal Kataria launched a Mobile Application for Geo Tagging of components of projects under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana-Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme (PMKSY-AIBP).  
The Ministry of Jal Shakti has developed the mobile application with the help of Bhaskaracharya National Institute of Space Applications & Geo-informatics (BISAG-N).

IIT Kharagpur & TCS Developed novel industry 4.0 Technology to set new trends in Advanced Manufacturing Sector of IndiaIIT Kharagpur & TCS Develop Novel Industry 4

Indian Institute of Technology(IIT) Kharagpur in partnership with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) developed a novel Industry 4.0 Technology for remotely controlled factory operations and real time quality correction during industrial production. This will set a new trend in the advanced manufacturing sector of India. The project was funded by the Department of Heavy Industry, Government of India and TCS.
The technology was developed by Prof. Surjya K Pal, professor in-charge at the Centre of Excellence(CoE) in Advanced Manufacturing Technology.
This technology has been reported in the CIRP Journal of Manufacturing Science and Technology.
4.0 Technology:
i.The developed technology will acquire real time information on the welding process through the multiple sensors and through the cloud based communication with the stir welding machine it enables online control of the welding process.
ii.The technology’s concept can be evolved for a real time control of industrial processes and these works can be performed from a centre with other industrial partners.
Purpose:
i.The cloud infrastructure, remote and real-time operations system play a vital role in maintaining the industrial operations amid the global pandemic where the hygiene and social distancing norms restrict the staffing.
ii.The benefits of the controlled operations impacted the Atma Nirbhar Bharat in delivering the quality output at low cost.
Key Points:
i.The developed 4.0 technology upgraded the industrial process of friction stir welding to a multi-sensory system of Industry 4.0, which enables real time quality check and correction during the production.
ii.This technology will support to achieve the standardized quality goals in the production process and reduce the rejections which will lower the production.
iii.The Embedded Systems & Robotics, Internet of Things(IoT) and ICME platform teams from TCS Research and Innovation are working closely with IIT Kharagpur’s CoE towards Artificial Intelligence(AI)-driven prediction/control of weld strength using a scalable and robust platform.

Former & 1st Home Minister of Telangana Nayani Narasimha Reddy Passed AwayFormer Telangana Home Minister Narasimha Reddy dead

On 22nd October 2020, Former & First Home Minister of Telangana Nayani Narasimha Reddy who is popularly known as “Narsanna” passed away at a private hospital in Hyderabad, Telangana. He was born in Neredugomma village near Nalgonda which is currently in Devarakonda, Telangana.
About Nayani Narasimha Reddy:
i.After the formation of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in 2001 Nayani Narasimha Reddy joined the separate Telangana movement and played the major role in formation of Telangana 
ii.He represented the TRS party on the various platforms on the demand of the formation of separate Telangana.
Political career:
i.He served as MLA from Musheerabad assembly constituency thrice (twice represents Janata party & once represents TRS party ).
ii.He was one of the 6 ministers of TRS to share power with the Congress government by  Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
iii.After the formation of Telangana state, he was made Home Minister under K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

ii.As a part of commemoration Member States held a special event on September 21, 2020 where they reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism.
iii.The UN Regional Information Centre for Western Europe (UNRIC) launched pan-European campaign “Turn Europe UN Blue” to promote peace, sustainable development and human rights.

The Raising Day of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is annually observed on October 24. This year(2020) marks the 59th year of its existence. ITBP Force(ITBPF) was raised on October 24, 1962 under the Central Reserve Police Force Act, 1949.
About Indo-Tibetan Border Police
i.ITBP is the primary border patrol organization of India with its border with Tibet (China)
It is one of the Central Armed Police Forces of India.
ii.ITBPF Act, 1992 was enacted by the parliament in 1992 and rules were framed in 1994.

i.Currently, ITBP is deployed on border guarding duties from Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh covering 3488 km of Indo-China Border and manning Border Outposts in the Western, Middle and Eastern sectors of the Indo-China Border.
ii.The ITBPF is a  specialized mountain force.

Researchers from  Netherlands Cancer Institute Discovered a New Pair of Salivary Glands, ‘tubarial glands’

On October 22, 2020 Researchers from the Netherlands Cancer Institute have discovered a new pair of salivary glands that is hidden between the nasal cavity and throat. The team proposed the name ‘tubarial glands’ for the new discovery.

The new glands were found out when using a new type of scan namely, Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen(PSMA) Positron Emission Tomography (PET)/Computed Tomography(CT) scan. The paper was published by the team in ‘Radiotherapy and Oncology’.

METLDEX to be first tradeable real-time base metals indices in country: MCX

MCX (Multi-Commodity Exchange of India) launched India’s first real-time Base Metals Index i.e MCX iCOMDEX Base Metal METLDEX in the commodity derivatives segment. Until now, Domestic Metal Prices were hinged to the London Metal Exchange (LME). METLDEX is based on Five base metals – Zinc, Copper, Nickel, Lead, and Aluminium.

World Junior Badminton Championships 2020 cancelled

The World Junior Badminton Champions 2020 scheduled to be held in New Zealand from January 11-24, 2021 has been cancelled due to Pandemic. Badminton World Federation has stated that they have accepted a proposal to stage the 2024 edition in New Zealand as a replacement for the edition lost.

ESI scheme extended to Arunachal Pradesh

The Ministry of Labour and Employment announced the extension of Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) scheme for the first time to Arunachal Pradesh with effect from 1st November 2020. Under the issued notification all the factories in the district of Papum Pare with 10 or more employees are eligible for coverage under ESI Act 1948. Employees with wages up to Rs. 21000 per month (Rs.25000 for persons with disabilities) are eligible for the scheme.
