Key Focus Areas: During the 3-day long conference, discussions were focused on key strategic issues including, force modernization, jointness, integration and improving operational readiness for multi-domain warfare.
Unveiled Vision Document: During the event, PM Narendra Modi unveiled the ‘Indian Armed Forces Vision 2047’ document, outlining the path for future-ready Indian Armed Forces.

MoFAH&D Partners with FAO to Strengthen Blue Port Infrastructure in India through TCPOn September 19, 2025, the Department of Fisheries (DoF), Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (MoFAH&D), partnered with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) to develop Blue Port Infrastructure in India through a Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP) framework.
- Under this framework, Blue Ports are smart, integrated fishing harbours, combining technology, environmental management, and sustainability.

Features: The Blue Port model will incorporate eco-friendly infrastructure such as Renewable Energy (RE) integration, rainwater harvesting, and modern waste management facilities; improved cold chain storage, and logistics facilities to reduce post-harvest losses and enhance fish exports.

In September 2025, Odisha’s deep-tech startup company Coratia Technologies has signed a contract worth Rs 66 crore (approximately USD 7.5 million) with Indian Navy (IN), for the supply of indigenously-built Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (UWROVs).
- The contract marks the first large-scale deployment of India-built UWROVs in the IN, supporting ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.

WMO Report 2024t: Only 3rd of World River Basins Had Water Within Normal Range in 2024In September 2025, the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) released its latest “State of the Global Water Resources Report 2024”. As per the report, only 1/3rd (approximately 33.3%) of the global river basins had ‘normal’ conditions in 2024.
- The report further highlighted around 60% of the global rivers recorded either excessive or deficient water flows for the 6th consecutive year.
Key Findings of the Report:
Hottest Year: As per the report, the year 2024 was the hottest year in the 175-observational record, with global surface temperatures reaching 1.55 °C above pre-industrial levels.
Anomalies in Average River Discharge: The report revealed that in the last 6 years, only about 1/3rd (33.3%) of the river catchment area had normal discharge conditions compared to the 1991-2020 average.
Glacier Loss: As per the report, year 2024 marked as the 3rd consecutive year with widespread glacier loss across all regions; with 450 Giga tons (Gt) lost i.e. equivalent to a massive block of ice measuring 7 kilometer (km) ×7km×7km, or enough to fill 180 million Olympic-sized swimming pools.
Key Projection for 2050: The United Nations (UN) Water has projected that 3.6 billion people will face inadequate access to water at least a month per year (annually) and further expected to increase to over 5 billion by 2050.

PFRDA to introduce multiple scheme framework for NPS from October 1In September 2025, the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) announced the introduction of a Multiple Scheme Framework (MSF) for non-government sector subscribers under the National Pension System (NPS).
- This major change is effective from October 1,2025.
Key Features:
MSF: Under this framework, the NPS subscribers not employed with the government will be able to hold multiple schemes under a single PRAN (Permanent Retirement Account Number) across various CRAs (Central Record Keeping Agencies)
- In the earlier structure, a subscriber could operate only a single investment choice per tier and also be associated with one CRA only.
Design: Under MSF, the Pension Funds (PFs) are permitted to design schemes tailored to specific subscriber groups, such as digital economy workers, self-employed professionals, and corporate employees with employer co-contributions.
Variants: Each scheme may have at least two variants, one moderate and one high-risk, with equity allocation allowed up to 100% (up from current 75%) in the high-risk category.
About Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA)
It was initially established as a regulatory body to promote, develop and regulate the pension sector in India. Later, it was granted a statutory body status through PFRDA Act, 2013 passed in September 2013 and the same was officially notified on February 1, 2014.

RBI Authorizes DBS Bank India as Agency Bank to Collect GST Payments
In September 2025, DBS Bank India became the first wholly owned subsidiary of a foreign bank in India to be authorized by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as an agency bank to collect Goods and Services Tax (GST) payments.

Astronomers Discovers Arjuna Asteroid ‘2025 PN7’, Earth’s Latest Quasi-Satellite
In September 2025, astronomers discovered a new Earth’s quasi-satellite, ‘2025 PN7’, a near-Earth Arjuna-class asteroid named after Mahabharata’s Arjuna. It orbits the Sun while staying close to Earth and is expected to remain in this quasi-satellite state for about 128 years.
- With the discovery of 2025 PN7, the number of quasi-satellites reaches to 7 including 164207 Cardea (2004 GU9), 469219 Kamo’oalewa (2016 HO3), 277810 (2006 FV35), 2013 LX28, 2014 OL339, and 2023 FW13.

Orbit Time: Just like Earth, 2025 PN7 completes one orbit around the Sun in 1 year.
Average Distance from Earth: The new asteroid swings as close as 186,000 miles or 299,337 kilometers (kms) from Earth.

International Equal Pay Day 2025- September 18The United Nations(UN) observed International Equal Pay Day, celebrated every year across the world on 18 September to highlight global efforts towards achieving equal pay for work of equal value.
- 18 September 2025 marks the observance of the 6th International Equal Pay Day.
Background:
Initiation: In 2019, during the 41st session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, Switzerland, the Equal Pay International Coalition (EPIC) steering committee member Iceland, along with other core members: Australia, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, Panama, South Africa, and Switzerland, introduced a resolution on equal pay, recommending the UN General Assembly (UNGA) to declare an International Equal Pay Day.
Adoption :On 18 December 2019, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) adopted the resolution A/RES/74/142, proclaiming the 18 September of every year as International Equal Pay Day.
First Observance: The first-ever International Equal Pay Day was observed on 18 September 2020.

World Bamboo Day 2025 – September 18World Bamboo Day is observed annually across the globe on September 18 to promote awareness of bamboo’s environmental, cultural, and economic significance.
- September 18 2025, marks the 17th observance of the World Bamboo Day.
Background:
Origin: World Bamboo Day was established in 2009 during the 8th World Bamboo Congress (WBC) in Bangkok, Thailand, by the World Bamboo Organisation (WBO).
- The 13th WBC is scheduled for 2026, while the 12th WBC was held in Taiwan under the aegis of the United States of America(USA).
Observance: Kamesh Salam from Assam, who served as WBO President from 2007 to 2009, initiated the observance of World Bamboo Day.
First Observance:The first celebration took place on 18 September 2009 in Bangkok, Thailand.

IPC Inaugurates 5th National Pharmacovigilance Week in New Delhi
On September 17, 2025, Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), inaugurated the 5th National Pharmacovigilance Week (NPW), observed from September 17 to 23, 2025, at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Delhi.

About 5th National Pharmacovigilance Week:

Theme: IPC, functioning as the National Coordination Centre for the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (NCC-PvPI), organized the campaign under the theme “Your Safety, just a Click Away: Report to PvPI”.
Other initiatives launched: It includes a short film on the PvPI, a pharmacovigilance comic published in different Indian languages to enhance public awareness, and a new online reporting platform designed for easy access through a Quick Response (QR) code.
Awards: During the event, awards were conferred to recognize the outstanding contributions in the field of pharmacovigilance.
- ADR Monitoring Centre at Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Centre, Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh, UP) received the PvPI-Patient Safety Excellence Award.

Maharashtra Govt and Finland to Modernise Mumbai’s Sassoon Dock
In September 2025, Nitesh Narayan Rane, Minister of Ports Development of Maharashtra, announced plans for the technology-driven modernisation of Mumbai’s historic Sassoon Dock, in collaboration with Finland.
- To kick off the project, the Finnish delegation, led by Consul General Erik af Hällström and Deputy Consul General Eva Nilsson, met with key Indian stakeholders at Sassoon Dock in South Mumbai, Maharashtra.
