Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana Celebrates 2nd Year Anniversary
On September 10, 2022, Union Minister, Parshottam Rupala, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying (MoFAHD), attended the 2nd anniversary of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), which is implemented by the Department of Fisheries (DoF), MoFAHD.
The event held in New Delhi, Delhi, showcased the progress and future action plans of the PMMSY flagship programme.
- The scheme also envisions the creation of 68 lakh jobs by the end of 2024-25.
A booklet on PMMSY & its achievements, Matsya Sampada: 3rd edition of DoF Newsletter, Tilapia Action Plan as part of Export Diversification, Scampi Action Plan, National Seed Plan: 2022-2025, and other documents were also released during the ceremony.
Objective: To bring about a Blue Revolution in India by developing the fisheries sector in a sustainable and responsible manner.
i.From 2019–20 to 2021–2022, the Fisheries sector had an incredible growth of 14.3%.
ii.Fish production has increased from 141.64 lakh tonnes in 2019-20 to 161.87 lakh tonnes (provisional) in 2021-22.

Nagaland celebrates the 1st ever Naga Mircha Festival at KohimaOn 9th September 2022, in Nagaland, the 1st ever Naga Mircha (King Chilli) Festival 2022 (1-day festival) was conducted at Seiyhama village under Kohima and was sponsored by the Department of Horticulture. The festival was hosted and organised by Seiyhama village Council and Seiyhama Naga Mircha Growers.
- Naga Mircha received the GI (Geographical Indication) certification in 2008 and it was the first product to receive a GI tag among the 4 GI products of Nagaland.
- The others three GI products are Naga Tree Tomato, Chakhesang shawls and Nagaland “sweet cucumber”.
Note: ‘GI Tagging’ is a specific geographical origin of a product which possesses qualities due to its geographic origin.
About Naga Mircha Festival:
i. Naga Mircha is constantly placed on the list of top 5 of the World’s hottest chillies based on the Scoville heat units (SHU).
ii. Naga Mircha belongs to the genus Capsicum of the family Solanaceae. It is also called ‘Raja Mircha’, ‘Bhoot Jolokia’ or ‘Ghost Pepper’.
iii. This Chilli is a native crop of Nagaland, which originally originates from the Zeliangrong area of Nagaland.

Highlights of Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina visit to India
i.On September 5-8, 2022, the Prime Minister (PM) of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina was on a four-day visit to India and held bilateral talks with Indian PM Narendra Modi to review and further strengthen the relationship between both countries.
ii.Both sides looked forward to the early launch of the jointly-produced film on Bangabandhu (Mujib: the Making of A Nation).
iii.During the meeting Seven Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between India and Bangladesh in the areas of railways, science and technology, space technology and broadcasting. This includes Two MoUs to deepen inter-governmental railway co-operation between both nations.
iv.Both nations decided to open north east border for trade, and transit. This will not only boost northeastern states in India, but also benefits Bangladesh by providing a gateway to South East Asia.
v.PM Sheikh Hasina conferred the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Student Scholarship on 100 students of class 10 and 100 students of class 12 at a function in New Delhi (Delhi).

CCRAS Offers Research Fellowship to Support Research Efforts in Ayurveda – SPARKThe Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), will offer research fellowship to young undergraduate (UG) students enrolled in recognized ayurveda colleges across India under the ‘Studentship Program for Ayurveda Research Ken’ (SPARK) initiative.
Key highlights:
i.The SPARK Program will support the innovative ideas of young UG students and will promote evidence based scientific research in the field of Traditional Medicine.
ii.Interested candidates must submit their research proposals through the SPARK Portal (www.spark.ccras.nic.in.), which will be evaluated by experts and reviewers.
iii.The selected fellows will be offered a financial support of Rs 50,000 under the fellowship for 100 students initially.
Note – The CCRAS is currently working on various research and development projects in collaboration with leading research institutions in Romania, Germany, Israel, USA, Canada and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

i.This fellowship scheme and the application portal was launched by Pramod Kumar Pathak, Special Secretary, Ministry of Ayush and Vaidya Jayant Yeshwant Deopujari, Chairman, National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM).

Coal Ministry announced 1.23 billion tonne Coal target by 2024-2025
The Ministry of Coal aims to upgrade coal production to 1.23 billion tonnes (BT) by Financial Year (FY) 2024-2025 to secure the energy security of the country.
- To support Coal production, Coal India Limited (CIL) has adopted an integrated planning approach by strengthening evacuation infrastructure.
- CIL plans for 1 billion tonnes of production and seamless transportation of coal to the end users.
- The major Coalfield in Jharkhand State is North Karanpura Coalfield, which falls under the command of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL). CCL has projected production contribution of about 135 Million tonne by FY25, out of which about 85 MT is likely to be produced from North Karanpura Coalfield from several Greenfield/brownfield coal mining projects, like Amrapali (25 MT), Magadh (51 MT), Chandragupta (15 MT), Sanghmitra (20 MT, etc.

HDFC Bank Issues India’s First Electronic Bank Guarantee (E-BG); Also signs MoU with Institute of Economic GrowthHDFC Bank, India’s largest private sector bank, has become the first bank in India to issue an Electronic Bank Guarantee (e-BG), in partnership with National E-Governance Services Limited (NeSL).
- The introduction of e-BG eliminates the lengthy, paper-based procedure and enables faster processing, instant delivery, instant verification, and better security.
- The eBG will be issued using the NeSL paperless eStamping Digital Document Execution (DDE) platform.
Key Points:
i.Physical stamping has been replaced with eStamping, and with eBG, the applicant and beneficiary can instantly view a bank guarantee on the NeSL portal.
- e-BG will be issued on the NeSL portal through an Application Programming Interface (API) -based digital workflow.
ii.The bank aims to totally switch over to the eBG platform, to hasten the issuing of BGs to its clients.
iii.It is developed in consultation with the NeSL, Central Vigilance Commission (CVC)- Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) committee, and the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA).

HDFC Bank signs MoU with Institute of Economic Growth
HDFC Bank has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Economic Growth (IEG) to fund the “HDFC Bank Chair of Banking and Finance”.
- The HDFC Bank chair will conduct research on critical and evolving aspects of banking and finance.
The HDFC Bank chair will be hosted at the IEG campus in New Delhi, Delhi, and the bank will sponsor IEG for this chair for a period of 5 years, beginning September 1, 2022, with a funding support of Rs. 6.75 crore.
- IEG is regarded as a Center of Excellence (CoE) and among India’s top think tanks for economic and social development.
The pact was signed in the presence of Atanu Chakraborty, Chairman of HDFC Bank, and Ramesh Chand, NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) Member & Chairman of IEG.

Reliance Industries will build the World’s largest Carbon Fibre Plant by 2025 in Gujarat
Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has announced to build India’s first and one of the world’s largest Carbon Fibre Plant in Hazira, Gujarat. The plant’s 1st phase will be completed by 2025.
- The plant, based on Acrylonitrile feedstock, will have a capacity of 20,000 Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA).
- The investment of RIL is Rs 75,000 crore over the next 5 years in RILs Oil-to-Chemical (O2C) business to expand capacities in existing and new value chains. The value chains are- Polyester value chain, Vinyl chain, and New Materials.
- He also announced to build one of the world’s largest single-train Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) plant of 3 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) capacity at Dahej, Gujarat.

TARAGIRI: Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd launches 5th Stealth Frigate of Project 17AOn September 11, 2022, the 5th Nilgiri-Class stealth frigate of the Indian Navy’s (IN) Project 17A namely ‘Taragiri’ (YD 12653) was launched in Mumbai, Maharashtra by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. (MDL). It is named after a hill range in the Himalayas located in Garhwal, Uttarakhand.
“Taragiri” is the 3rd frigate built by MDL and the 5th ship in the class overall.
- It was designed by the Indian Navy’s in-house design organisation Directorate of Naval Design (DND) in New Delhi (Delhi), while its detailed design and construction was overseen by the MDL, along with Warship Overseeing Team (Mumbai).
- It has been built using an integrated construction methodology.
- The ship was named by Charu Singh, President, Navy Wives Welfare Association (Western Region), wife of vice admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh, FOC-in-C (Flag Officer Commanding in Chief) Western Naval Command, who was the chief guest.
Features of Taragiri:
i.Launch weight: Approximately 3510 Tons
ii.Length & Width: 149.02 meters long and 17.8 Meters wide
iii.Speed: Over 28 knots
iv.Displacement: Approximately 6670 Tons
v.It is propelled by a CODOG (Combined Diesel or Gas) combination of two Gas Turbines and two main diesel engines
vi.Defence capability: Counter the threat of enemy aircraft and anti-ship cruise missiles
Key Points:
i.Taragiri will have state-of-the-art weapons, sensors, an advanced action information system, an integrated platform management system, world-class modular living spaces, a sophisticated power distribution system, and a host of other advanced features.
ii.It is fitted with a supersonic surface-to-surface missile system.
iii.The steel used in Hull construction of P17A frigates is indigenously developed DMR 249A which is a low carbon micro-alloy grade steel manufactured by SAIL (Steel Authority of India Limited).
iv.There are Two 30 mm rapid-fire guns that provide the ship with close-in-defence capability.
v.There is also SRGM (Super Rapid Gun Mount) Gun which provides effective naval gunfire support.
vi.The keel of Taragiri was laid on September 10, 2020 and the ship is expected to be delivered by August 2025.
About P17A Ships:
These are guided-missile frigates, which are follow-on classes of the P17 (Shivalik Class) Frigates with improved stealth features, advanced weapons and sensors and platform management systems. The total value of Project 17A is around Rs 50,000 Crore.
- Under this, Seven P17A Frigates are being built- 4 at MDL and 3 at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE). These are named as Nilgiri, Himgiri, Udaygiri, Dunagiri, Taragiri, Vindhyagiri and Mahendragiri e. after the names of hill ranges in India.
- So far, Four P17A ships, 2 each at MDL and GRSE, have been launched between 2019 and 2022. 1st ship of P17A, “Nilgiri”, was launched in 2019 at MDL and 2nd Ship “Himgiri” was launched at GRSE in 2020. The 3rd ship, Udaygiri, was launched at MDL in May 2022 while the 4th ship, Dunagiri, was launched on July 15, 2022 by GRSE.

- This is his 4th win in the Formula 2 race and 1st win of this season.
- It was also his 6th top-three finish at Monza
- He has moved to fifth in the F2 season with 126 points.

Rahul Sharma announces retirement from Int’l and first-class cricket
Indian cricketer Rahul Sharma (35 year old) announced his retirement from all international and first class cricket. He represented India in four One Day Internationals (ODI) and two T20Is (Twenty20 International).
- Rahul Sharma played a total of 44 matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with 40 wickets towards his name.
- He made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut with Deccan Chargers (now Sunrisers Hyderabad) in 2010, then represented the now defunct Pune Warriors in 2013 before moving on to play for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2014.
- He will take part in the upcoming Road Safety World Series for Indian Maharajas, which will start from 10 September to 2 October in Lucknow, Jodhpur, Cuttack and Hyderabad. The second season of the tournament features retired cricketers.
The 1st ever Mountain Bicycle, UCI MTB Eliminator World Cup 2022 held in India
Ladakh Police in collaboration with the Administration of Union Territory of Ladakh and Cycling Association of India organized the first ever Mountain Bicycle (MTB) World Cup- UCI MTB Eliminator World Cup 2022 in Leh, Ladakh. The event took place at the height of over 12 thousand feet to sea level. Twenty international, 55 national and local cyclists participated in this world cup competition.
- Ladakh Police is hosting the event, while the Cycling Federation of India (CFI) and Edify Sports are the official partners.
- Winner of Women Elite Category- Cross- Country eliminator- Marion Fromberger (Germany) and Winner of Men Elite Category- Cross- Country eliminator- Felix Klausmann(Germany).
- Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Mountain Bike Eliminator World Cup is a Cross Country Eliminator (XCE) type track race. The racers must complete two laps of the 500-meter short track, which has both natural and man-made obstacles. Four racers will be competing at once. It’s a true display of strength, speed, agility, grit, and determination.
- The Ladakh Lieutenant Governor RK Mathur, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, SS Khandare flagged off various raids that are part of world cup eliminator.

Former Union Minister and Actor Krishnam Raju passes awayOn 11th September 2022, Uppalapati Venkata Krishnam Raju, an Indian actor and politician passed away at the age of 82 in Hyderabad, Telangana.He was uncle of ‘Baahubali’ star Prabhas.
About U V Krishnam Raju:
i. U V Krishnam Raju from Andhra Pradesh entered Tollywood in 1966 with his debut film ‘Chilaka Gorinka’. He is the owner of the banner ‘Gopi Krishna Movies’ and produced many films under his banner.
ii. He was elected as an Member of Parliament(MP) in the 12th Lok Sabha from the Kakinada constituency in 1998 and re-elected in the 13th Lok Sabha from the Narasapuram constituency in 1999.
iii.He served as a Minister of State for the Ministry of External Affairs from 1999 to 2004.

i.The United Nations General Assembly adopted the resolution A/RES/58/220 on 23rd December 2003 and proclaimed the 19th December of every year as the United Nations Day for South-South Cooperation.

iii.In December 2011, the UNGA decided to change the observance of the International Day for South-South Cooperation from 19 December to 12 September.

National Forest Martyrs Day 2022 – September 11The National Forest Martyrs Day is annually observed across India on 11th September to honour people who gave their lives to preserve India’s forests and wildlife. The day is celebrated to commemorate the anniversary of the Khejarli Massacre in 1730.

Chhattisgarh Government to launch New scheme to provide Mobile Healthcare Facilities for Cattle
On 10th September, Bhupesh Baghel, the Chief Minister (CM) of Chhattisgarh is set to launch a new scheme ‘Mukhyamantri Govansh Mobile Chikitsa Yojana’ aiming to deploy Mobile Veterinary Units (MVU) to provide better health care facilities to cattle.
Initially, every district will get 1 or 2 mobile veterinary units with Veterinarians.
Key Highlights:
i. The Chhattisgarh CM has directed Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain to take all necessary measures to impose the scheme.
ii. At present, the healthcare service for cattle is given at the government-run veterinary hospitals to give quality medical facilities to cattle.

J&K Police has launched the online mobile application ‘JK ECop’ in Jammu and Kashmir. It was provided to make an easy way to use networks to facilitate the common people.
- The application enables people to use a host of services ranging from registering a complaint to downloading a copy of an FIR (First Information Report).
- As per the J&K Police, this app is a single-way solution for almost all police related problems like reporting violations, the status of highways, seeking emergency help, etc.
