Awards

Florence Nightingale Awards to 35 nurses

  • Honourable President, Sri Pranab Mukherjee presented the national Florence Nightingale awards to 35 selected nurses from all over the country in the Rashtrapati Bhavan, on the occasion of International nurses’ day on 12th may, which is celebrated every year on the birthday of Florence Nightingale.
  • While giving away the awards, he expressed concern over poor ratio of nurse to patient(1.25/1000) in India compared to the global ratio of 3/1000. It’s important to know that nurses are the largest work force(26 lakhs) in the medical industry.
  • Health minister J.P. Nadda was among other dignitaries present.

Justice Cyriac Joseph appointed NHRC acting chief

  • Justice Cyriac Joseph who hails from Kerala, was appointed as the interim chairperson of the NHRC until the new chairperson gets appointed.
  • He is taking over justice K.G. Balakrishnan who completed his tenure as the sixth chief of NHRC, he had the longest tenure.

  • Asiatic lion population in Gir sanctuary increases to 523: Census report 2015
  • The 14th Asiatic lion census,2015, proposes a good increment in the number of Asiatic lions in the Gir Sanctuary of Gujarat. The number has gone upto 523 from 411 in 2010.
  • The census shows that there are 109 adults males,201 females and 213 cubs. The census covered 8 districts and was conducted by modern GPS , camera traps and dig cams.

Hyderabad to play host to global pharma summit

  • Hyderabad is all set to host a 4 day long global pharma expo and summit from 23 July,2015.
  • Event will touch a range of issues from pharma teaching to education, indigenous drugs, drug regulation and will also endorse joint ventures and collabs.
  • The summit, with the theme ” innovation and advances” is being organised by the Indus foundation in association with FTAPCCI and OMICS group.

40mw Solar Plant Commissioned in MP

  • Bangalore based, solar module manufacturer, Vikram Solar, has successfully commissioned a 40 MW solar photovoltaic plant for IL&FSED CO. Spread over 260 acres, it was installed within 6 months in 2 plants of 20 MW each.
  • It is set up under the Jawahar Nehru National Solar Mission phase II and is connected to the national grid.
  • It’s expected to generate 79.2 million kWh in the first year.
  • It aims to boost local production. The high efficiency PV modules are made in Falta, West Bengal.

Bharti AXA appoints Deepak Iyer as CEO

  • Deepak Iyer, currently working as the MD at Wrigley India, has been appointed as the new CEO and MD of BHARATI AXA general insurance.
  • He will join office from June 2015 and will replace incumbent CEO Milind Chalisgaonkar. He has also worked for PepsiCo.

Aditya Birla Retail buys retail biz of Jubilant

  • Aditya Birla Retail, a subsidiary of Aditya Birla Group, had acquired the total superstore business of Jubilant Agri & Consumer products in an all cash deal.
  • Deal includes 4 hypermarkets in Bengaluru, said Pranav Barua, Business Director at ABG, as the group plans to expand its business in the south.

Dedicated E-Commerce Centre of India Posts launched in New Delhi

  • With a network of 1.5 lakh posts, India Post, covers more posts than any other logistics company. Gov’t. has decided to use it as a major player in the e commerce business.
  • Gov’t. Has launched an e-commerce centre in Delhi to handle all the delivery business catering exclusively to the ecommerce portals.

Indian U-19 Men;s Football team gets new Coach

  • Englishman Lee Alan Johnson has been roped in as the head coach of India U-19 football team, besides that he will also act as the head scout for the national side and assistant coach for the sr. men’s team.
  • Prior to this he was the technical director of Rwandan football. He has worked for the Chelsea FC academy.
