On September 23, 2020 Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister(CM) of West Bengal virtually inaugurated 2 major green projects worth around Rs 1226 crore to be set up in collaboration with European Union countries.Â

Ugo Astuto, EU ambassador to India; Vincenzo de Luca, Italian ambassador to India; Marten van den Berg, ambassador of the Netherlands to India and the deputy ambassador of Germany took part in the virtual inauguration.
Points to be Noted
- Of the 2 green projects, one is a management and sustainable development project to be built in Kolkata Leather Complex at Bantala in the eastern outskirts of the city.Â
- Meanwhile the solar power project will be built in Purba Midnapore(East Medinipur) district.
MoU signedÂ
In 2019, memorandum of understanding (MoU) for these projects were signed at the global business summit held at the beach town of Digha in East Midnapore.
Gist About the Projects
Waste management and sustainable development Project
i.The project involves a foreign investment worth 3 million Euros (around Rs 26 crore).
ii.It will be built in collaboration with Dutch partners.
iii.It will generate 5 lakh jobs and help medium, small and micro enterprises grow
Solar power project
i.The project worth Rs 1200 crore will be set up by a German company.
ii.Rs 200 crore will be invested by the west bengal Government in the project.
iii.The project will save the climate from 50,000 tons of carbon emission every year.
iv.After completion of the project, it will generate 350 million units of power per annum and will generate thousands of employment.
