Union Minister of State Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar launched the Digital India FutureLABSUnion Minister of State(MoS) Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology(MeitY) launched the “Digital India FutureLABS” at Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology-Delhi (IIIT-Delhi), New Delhi, Delhi

  • The MoS also addressed the Digital India FutureLABS Summit 2024 held at IIIT-Delhi on 3rd February 2024.

About Digital India futureLABS:

i.Digital India futureLABS will be coordinated by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing(C-DAC).

ii.This aims to utilise the opportunity presented by the Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector.

iii.This will offer a platform for Indian startups in developing NextGen Electronics in Automotive, Compute, Telecom, Industrial and Strategic Electronics.

iv.This will focus on key areas like Compute, Communication, Automotive & Mobility, Strategic Electronics, and Industrial Internet of Things (IoT).

Note: 

Funding for the platform will be provided from the Research and Development (R&D) budget of MeitY and other labs and the Rs 1 lakh Crore provided by the government of India.

About the Summit: 

The Summit hosted by IIIT-Delhi focused on ‘Catalyzing the Next-generation Electronics System Design through Digital India FutureLABS’.

Highlights: 

i.During the summit, 22 Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) were signed between C-DAC and Industry Partners for implementation of the futureLABS

ii.Organisations like NXP Semiconductors, Tenstorrent and Qualcomm India signed MoUs in areas like High-Performance Computing space, Design & Innovation in Compute space and Indian Telecom Stack.

Additional info: 

i.3 indigenously-designed and developed technologies by the C-DAC, Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) under the InTranSE Programme of MeitY were transferred to 12 industries.

  • The 3 technologies include: thermal camera, CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) camera, and Fleet Management System.

ii.MeitY transfered the state-of-the-art “Smart Food Grain Storage System (SAFEETY) technology”, developed by Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research (SAMEER) under the guidance of MeitY, to Paras Defence & Space Technologies Ltd.

  • The features of SAFEETY includes conveyorized loading and unloading of grain bags with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) for traceability, online weight and moisture measurement, and Radio Frequency Based Removal of Moisture from Grain.
  • It has the efficiency to handle approximately 28 tons of grains in 40 minutes.
