Singapore Changi Airport has been named the “World’s Best Airport” in 2023 at the World Airport Awards 2023 ceremony held at Passenger Terminal EXPO in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on March 15, 2023. The rankings were based on the 2022–2023 World Airport Survey and released by Skytrax, a renowned airline and airport review and ranking site based in the United Kingdom (UK).
- Singapore Changi Airport has reclaimed its status as the world’s best airport after losing it to Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar, for two years (2021 and 2022) during the peak of COVID-19 pandemic travel restrictions.
Changi Airport was also named World’s Best Airport for Dining, Best Airport for Leisure Amenities, and Best Airport in Asia in 2023.
- Skytrax has awarded Changi Airport with the title of “World’s Best Airport” for the 12th time.
- Changi Airport previously held the top spot on the list for eight years in a row before slipping a few positions in 2021 and 2022.
Skytrax World Airport Awards 2023: Indian Airports
i.Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi is awarded a 4-star rating and named the ‘Best Airport in India and South Asia’ and is ranked 36th in 2023. (Rank 37 in 2022).
- It is also awarded The Cleanest Airport in India & South Asia.
ii.Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad (Telangana) is ranked 65th in 2023 (Rank 63 in 2022).
- RGIA has been awarded the ‘Best Regional Airport in India and South Asia,’ as well as an award for the ‘Best Airport Staff in India and South Asia’.
iii.Bangalore (Karnataka) Airport is ranked 69th in 2023 (Rank 61 in 2022), whereas Mumbai (Maharashtra) Airport is ranked 84th in 2023 (Rank 65 in 2022).
Skytrax World Airport Awards 2023: World’s Top 5 Airports
i.Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar, which was named Airport of the Year in 2021 and 2022, came in 2nd in the global ranking.
- It has also received three prestigious awards for the World’s Best Airport Shopping, Best Airport in the Middle East, and Cleanest Airport in the Middle East.
ii.Tokyo Haneda International Airport in Japan has been named the 3rd best airport in the world in the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2023.
iii.Incheon International Airport in Seoul, South Korea, came in 4th position. It is the largest airport in South Korea.
iv.Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, France’s largest international airport, was Europe’s top performer, moving up one spot to 5th place.
- The airport, named after statesman Charles de Gaulle and opened in 1974, serves as principal hub for Air France.
v.Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, United States (US) was the highest ranked North American airport, ranking 18th in 2023, up from 27th in 2022.

The World Airport Awards, which debuted in 1999, have been dubbed the Oscars of the airport industry.
- The awards, designated as the Passengers Choice Awards, are determined by customer evaluations of the quality of airport services and facilities at more than 550 airports.
