SAFAR Air – a new mobile app jointly developed by Pune-based Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology and the Indian Meteorological Department is now available in Google Play Store. With this App it is possible for the people of Pune and Delhi to find out exactly how toxic the air in their neighborhood is. The app will be available to users in Mumbai by April, followed by Ahmedabad, Chennai and Kolkata. The app allows users to access on-the-go, real-time information about the pollution levels within their cities. Users can also share the information from the app on Twitter, Facebook, and by email.

- As per the WHO report released on 2014, Delhi has the highest level of the airborne particulate matter, PM2.5 with 153 micrograms followed by Patna with 149 micrograms (safe limit is 25 micrograms).
- Particulate Matter or PM is a mixture of solid particles and liquid droplets found in the air. It includes dust, dirt, soot, or smoke, are large or dark enough to be seen with the naked eye. Others are so small they can only be detected using an electron microscope.
- Air Pollution is the one of the causes of Asthma, Lung cancer, and Chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder.
