On 22nd February 2023, Rao Inderjit Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), released the Revised Guidelines on Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS)-2023.
- MoS Rao Inderjit Singh also launched a new Web portal for the implementation of the Revised Fund Flow Procedure under MPLADS.
- The newly revised guidelines for MPLAD and the web portal will come into effect from 1st April 2023.
MPLADS:
i.The MPLADS was launched on 23rd December 1993, to provide a mechanism for the Members of Parliament to recommend works.
ii.The MoSPI is the nodal Ministry responsible for policy formulation, the release of funds and monitoring the implementation of MPLADS.
iii.Objective of MPLAD: To enable Members of Parliament(MPs) to recommend works of developmental nature with emphasis on the creation of durable community assets based on locally felt needs.
iv.MPLADS is a centrally sponsored Plan Scheme fully funded by the Government of India.
Revised Guidelines for MPLADS 2023:
i.Aim of revised guidelines: To expand the scope of the MPLAD scheme to enable MPs to recommend the developmental works as per the changing needs of the community; with a focus on improving the functioning, implementation and monitoring of the MPLADS.
ii.The entire process of fund flow under the revised guidelines for MPLADS will operate through the newly launched web portal.
- The portal will facilitate real-time monitoring, greater transparency and accountability in the system, and improved efficiency and effectiveness of the MPLAD Scheme.

i.MoSPI has organised a 2-day conference on 22nd & 23rd February 2023 at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi, Delhi.
ii.The conference includes a training workshop and live demonstration of the role-based features of the web portal, for the officers of the State Governments and Union Territories(UTs).

The National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation (MoSPI), has released its First Advance Estimates (FAE) of National Income for the financial year 2022–2023 (FY23) at both constant (2011–12) and current prices.
- According to the NSO’s first FAE, the Indian economy will grow at a rate of 7% in FY23, up from 8.7% in FY22. However, these are preliminary estimates for 2022-2033.
