On 31st August 2020, Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister of Odisha, launched two citizen-centric mobile applications Ama Sahar and Swachha Sahar Odisha on the occasion of Local Self Government Day which was observed at the Lok Seva Bhawan over a virtual platform.
These apps enable the Urban Local Bodies(ULBs) to submit the utilisation certificates over online for the betterment of fiscal management.
Key Points:
i.He urged the ULBs to work towards meeting the growing requirements of the urban population amid pandemic situation.
ii.The best performing ULBs in the Swachha Sarbekhyan 2020 were facilitated by the chief Minister. The ULBs are:
- Berhampur Municipal Corporation.
- Paradeep Municipality.
- Joda Municipality.
- Kotpad NAC.
- Barbil Municipality.
- Dhenkanal Municipality.
- Rajgangpur Municipality.
- Byasanagar Municipality.
- Choudwar Municipality.
iii.With the steady efforts of the state to engage the community based organisation for the maintenance of sanitation facilities, CM handed over the operation and maintenance of the four Septage Treatment Plants were handed over to Mission Shakti groups of Rourkela, Angul, Balasore and Dhenkanal municipalities.
Other Initiatives:
i.Naveen Patanik also released a handbook on sanitation which contains the imported notifications, letters and guidelines of the Department which was also released by the CM.
ii.He also dedicated 100 functional micro-hybrid centers and 50 functional material recovery facilities for various ULBs of the state.
iii.He laid the foundation stone to set up 51 Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants, to ensure large coverage of these facilities across the state.
