On October 6, 2020, National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and Union Territory (UT) Administration of Ladakh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to conduct a survey for promotion of dairying and rural livelihood in the region.
Key Points:
i.The survey will collect required details to prepare a roadmap for development & promotion of dairying in Ladakh.
ii.The Roadmap will serve as a guide for enhancement of income of the rural population in the mountainous border areas.
iii.NDDB has proposed to list all households present in identified villages irrespective of their dairy animal holding status.
iv.The survey will take crucial aspects like climatic conditions, suitability of breeds, animal health & Artificial Intelligence (AI) support, feed & fodder availability, impediments in logistics & supply chain into consideration.
v.The findings of the survey and roadmap will be discussed with the stakeholders. Based on the discussion a plan would be finalised and shared with the UT Administration of Ladakh.
vi.NDDB will provide technical and managerial support to ensure that the producer owned institutions remain true to cooperative values.
Field Work:
i.As part of the two-month field work, Officials of NDDB will provide training to the nominated coordinators in Leh and Kargil districts.
ii.These coordinators will identify village investigators to be involved in survey, monitoring and supervision of fieldwork.
