On 13th January, 2021, Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council (NECBDC) to promote Bamboo Cultivation and related entrepreneurship in the region.
Components of the MoU:
i.The North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council (NECBDC) will provide technical guidance in cultivating various species of Bamboo in the region.
ii.This will promote development of Bamboo based industries in Jammu & Kashmir leading to exports of bamboo based products.
iii.The MoU was in line with the Prime Minister’s vision to encourage tree plantation on farm land “Har Medh Par Ped” mission.
Note– Currently, India stands second in Bamboo production only after China. Yet the annual import of bamboo based products worth Rs. 213 Crores.
Key People – The MoU was signed in presence of Shri Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of J&K and Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, MoS, PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space here at Convention Centre.

ii.On May 3 2020, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS Prime Minister Office, Personnel, Public Grievances,Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh participated in the Bamboo Conclave through Video Conference.
