International Children’s Book Day(ICBD) is annually observed across the globe on or around 2nd April, the birth anniversary of Danish Author Hans Christian Andersen, famous for his fairy tales for children.
- The day aims to celebrate and to inspire the love of reading and to focus attention on children’s books.
- The first ICBD was celebrated in 1967.
- Theme of ICBD 2021 is “The Music of words”.
- United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY) is the sponsor of 2021’s ICBD Poster.The theme of ICBD Poster 2021 is “The Music of words”.
Note – Every year, the Theme of ICBD Poster is chosen as the theme of ICBD.

ICBD poster 2021:
i.The message for the ICBD Poster was written by Margarita Engle, a Cuban-American author and the poster was designed by Roger Mello, a Brazilian illustrator.
Hans Christian Andersen Award:
i.The Hans Christian Andersen Award is the highest international distinction given to authors and illustrators of children’s books.
ii.The Hans Christian Andersen Award for authors was instituted in 1956 and the award for illustrator was instituted in 1996.
iii.The Hans Christian Andersen Award 2020 (Author) was presented to Jacqueline Woodson(America) and the award for an illustrator was presented to Albertine(Switzerland).
