India’s Antim Panghal, Georgios Kougioumtsidis (Greece), and Hasrat Jafarov(Azerbaijan) have been named as United World Wrestling’s (UWW) Rising Stars of the Year 2023 in Women’s Wrestling, Freestyle, and Greco-Roman respectively.
- Iszmail Muszukajev (Hungary), Bose Tosun (Türkiye), and Gabriel Rosillo (Cuba) have been named UWW’s Breakout Performances of the Year 2023 in Freestyle, Women’s Wrestling, and Greco-Roman respectively.

Antim Panghal:
i.The 19-year-old Antim Panghal from Haryana becomes the UWW Women’s Rising Stars of the Year 2023 for her exceptional performances, including her two women’s World Under-20 Championship titles (2022 and 2023) in the 53kg category.
ii.She also won the bronze medal in her senior world championships debut in Belgrade(Serbia) in September 2023.
iii.Antim Secured the bronze medal in the women’s 53kg category in the Asian Games 2022 held in Hangzhou(China) in October 2023.
- Antim also secured a Paris 2024 Olympic quota for India in the women’s 53kg category.
Breakout Performances of the Year:
i. IszmailMuszukajev(Hungary) bestowed for his performance at the 2023 World Championships where he won the gold medal in the 65kg Freestyle category.
ii.Bose Tosun (Türkiye) becomes the women’s Breakout Performances of the Year for her gold medal at the 2023World Championships in the 68kg category.
iii. Gabriel Rosillo (Cuba) becomes the Greco-Roman Breakout Performances of the Year for his gold medal at the 2023 World Championships in the 97kg category.
Note:
In August 2023, UWW indefinitely suspended the membership of the Wrestling Federation of India(WFI) due to lack of elections in the organisation. Thus, since then Indian players are participating in international events as ‘neutral athletes’ under the UWW flag.
