Highlights of Wings India 2022: Asia’s Largest Event on Civil Aviation held in Hyderabad, Telangana

Wings-India-2022---March-24---27,-2022

On March 24-27, 2022, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) jointly organized Wings India 2022 on the theme ‘India@75: New Horizon for Aviation Industry’ at Begumpet Airport, Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Telangana is the host state of the event. 

  • Wings India is a forum connecting buyers, sellers, investors, and other stakeholders for new business acquisition, investments, policy formation and regional connectivity.
  • It is Asia’s largest event on Civil Aviation (Commercial, General and Business Aviation)

CSIR-NAL showcases civil aircraft initiatives at Wings India 2022

CSIR (Council of Scientific & Industrial Research)-National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL), Bengaluru, Karnataka participated in the event to showcase its indigenous initiatives of civil aircrafts.

HANSA–NG: 

The major attraction of CSIR-NAL is its HANSA–NG (New Generation) Aircraft which was piloted by Wg. Cdr. Dilip Reddy, an Experimental Test Pilot of IAF (Indian Air Force). Notably, during Wings India 2022, CSIR-NAL received firm commitments for 10 Nos of HANSA-NG from M/s Belagavi Aviation Pvt Ltd; M/s Blue ray aviation has also shown interest in acquiring 3 nos of the aircraft.

  • HANSA–NG Aircraft designed and developed by CSIR-NAL.
  • HANSA-NG is one of the most advanced two seat flying trainer aircraft powered by Rotax Digital Control Engine with unique features like Just-In-Time Prepreg (JIPREG) Composite lightweight Airframe, among others. It is capable offlying upto an altitude of 10000ft with max speed of 200 kmph with more than 5 hrs endurance.

Multi-copter Drones:

NAL also showcased their multi-copter drone. Their unique feature is fully autonomous BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of sight) operation capability with max payload capability of 20kg with endurance of about 30 mins.

  • Agreements / Technology Transfer of these multi-copters (Quad, Hexa, Octa) were signed with M/s Scientech Industries Pvt Ltd, Indore, M/s Magic Myna, Coimbatore and M/s C I Network Technologies Pvt Ltd, Ahmedabad during Wings India.
  • They will start production in next three months’ time @ rate of 100 – 200 drones per month.

SARASMK2:

NAL showcased the fully loaded 1:1 mockup of SARASMK2/SARAS-Mk II which is a 19 Seat Light Transport Aircraft with multirole capabilities like Passenger transport, Troop transport, VIP transport and Casevac (AirAmbulance). It is exclusively designed for operations from short runways, hot and high airfields, and semi-prepared runways for connecting Tier 1 & Tier 2 cities / towns.

  • It has capability to fly upto 29000 ft at max speed of 500 kmph with range of 778 km and will be ideal candidate for promoting regional air connectivity under UDAN (UdeDesh ka Nagrik) scheme.

High Altitude Platforms (HAP):

It is a solar-powered UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) capable of day & night operation at a height of 20 km for more than 90 days.

Others:

NAL also showcased their other innovations like intermediate modulus grade carbon fiber, carbon prepreg, special coatings for aerospace applications, Cf-SiC composites, Just-In-time Pre-preg, thermoplastic composites, ARINC 818 IP core, etc., for various aerospace applications towards self-reliance are demonstrated.

AAI and BEL join hands to develop indigenous Air Traffic Management Systems:

The Airports Authority of India (AAI), under its R & D (Research & Development) initiative has signed an agreement with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the joint, indigenous development of Air Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) and surface movement of aircraft at airports in the country which were hitherto being imported.

Signatories:

It was signed by B K Sarkar, Executive Director (ATM) from AAI and M V Raja Sekhar, Director (R & D) from BEL in presence of Sanjeev Kumar, Chairman AAI, and other senior officials of AAI & BEL at Wings India 2022.

What will be done under the agreement?

Under this Agreement, BEL and AAI will jointly develop Civil ATMS with Advanced-Surface Movement Guidance and Control System (ASMGCS) which is a complex ground surveillance system that manages air traffic at airports and in Indian Civil Airspace for safe operation of flights from take-off to landing.

  • Air traffic control ensures safety, maintaining separation between multiple aircraft, and efficient management of operations at the airport and Indian airspace.
  • ASMGCS provides routing, guidance and surveillance services to aircraft and vehicles, on the ground, in order to maintain safe surface movement in all weather conditions at the airport.

Wings India Awards 2022:

The Award Ceremony was co-organized by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and FICCI on March 25, 2022 at Hotel Taj Krishna, Hyderabad, on the side-lines of Wings India 2022. The awards were presented by Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, MoCA. 

  • Wings India Awards are conferred upon the Aviation-related Companies/Institutions/Organizations that have created benchmarks in the area of Civil Aviation in India. 

Bengaluru Airport awarded ‘Best Airport’ & ‘Aviation Innovation’

The Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (BLR Airport), has won two major awards for its customer-centric approach, smart innovations, and adoption of cutting-edge technology.

  • It has been named the ‘Best Airport’ in the General Category, as well as the winner of the ‘Aviation Innovation’ Award. 

Mumbai airport awarded the Aviation Sustainability &Environment Award 

Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has been conferred the ‘Aviation Sustainability & Environment’ award for its efficient green practices. 

  • It is the first airport in the Asia Pacific to have published a Sustainability report as per the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards. 

Cochin International Airport Ltd bags Covid Champion Award 

Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) bagged the ‘Covid Champion Award’ at Wings India 2022 for the successful implementation of a meticulous project named ‘Mission Safeguarding’ during the pandemic to ensure safe travel at Kochi Airport.

  • It followed the 5R rule; Recognise, Respond, Repeat, Record, and Refer for this project.
  • Delhi Intl Airport Ltd (DIAL) also received the Covid champions award.

Vistara bags 3 Awards:

Vistara won three prestigious awards – Best Domestic Airline, Aviation Sustainability & Environment and Covid Champions.

  • It won the Best Domestic Airline award for the second time in a row. 

Other Awards: The states of Kerala, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka have been named the Most Dynamic States in Aviation.
