On October 5, 2020 Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani released Sanction letters to two Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) for the Country’s First Ever Organic Spices Seed Park in Patan & Banaskantha districts for production of Cumin & Fennel Seeds.
- Fennel seeds (Saunf) – Banaskantha
- Cumin seeds (Jeera) – Patan
The parks will encourage capacity building and help farmers in adoption of best practices in the production of cumin & fennel seeds.
Key Points:
i.National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) will provide Grant Assistance of INR 23 Lakhs to each of the parks.
ii.Each park will cover 50 farmers, and local FPO will operate the parks.
iii.The two parks will create a complete value chain and will serve as a platform for captive use of organic seeds.
iv.Once the parks are completed, specialised institutions will collect organic seeds, and send them for quality control tests.
v.These seeds will be graded, sorted and packaged and sent to farmers of FPOs for their use.
