Dak Karmayogi: E-Learning Platform launched by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw; Meghdoot Awards 2021 Conferredi.On June 28, 2022, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Ministry of Communications (MOC), and Minister of State (MoS) Devusinh Chauhan launched ‘Dak Karmayogi’ during a function held at Stein Auditorium, Indian Habitat Centre in New Delhi (Delhi).
ii.Developed under the Central Government’s vision of Mission Karmayogi, Dak Karmayogi is an e-learning portal of the Department of Posts.

PADMA: Automated Pay & Allowances Module for Indian Coast Guard LaunchedOn the lines of Digital India, and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, a Pay Roll Automation for Disbursement of Monthly Allowances (PADMA), an automated Pay & Allowances module for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) was inaugurated by Rajnish Kumar, Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA), Ministry of Defence (MoD) on June 28, 2022.

• This module has been developed under the aegis of Defense Accounts Department (DAD) and will be operated by Pay Accounts Office Coast Guard, Noida (Uttar Pradesh).

About PADMA:
It is an automated platform or Centralized Pay System (CPS) which utilizes latest technology to provide seamless and timely disbursal of Pay & Allowances to around 15,000 ICG personnel.

• CPS is one stop pay accounting solutions for all organizations under MoD.

Centralized Pay System:-
Centralized Payment Systems (CPS) in India are Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) and National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) systems, both owned and operated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Meta & Tribal Affairs Ministry Launches 2nd phase of GOAL 2.0

Social media giant Meta (Formerly known as Facebook) collaborated with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs to launch the 2nd phase of Going Online As Leaders (GOAL) 2.0 programme. It was launched by Union tribal affairs minister Arjun Munda.
Key Highlights:
i.The 1st phase of GOAL has changed the lives of tribal youth through the digital mentorship programme.
ii.In the 2nd phase, a platform will be created for more than 50,000 self-help groups and 10 lakh families associated with Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited (TRIFED) to reach globally.

• This will digitally upskill, connect and empower 10 lakh youth and women from the tribal communities to serve as a bridge for the socially marginalised youth to leverage opportunities using technology.

iii.As a result of first phase of GOAL, 75% of the participants from the tribal community admitted to being able to better articulate their thoughts to words and saw an improvement in their interpersonal skills.

Note – Around 8.6% of the total population in India constitutes Tribal population.
Role of Meta:
i.Through this programme, the participants will have access to Meta Business Coach, a WhatsApp-based learning bot, which gives an opportunity to learn skills of building and expanding business using Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
ii.It also involves Facebook Live sessions in 9 different languages by expertise in the field of anti-scamming education, staying safe online, combating misinformation and being a good digital citizen.

PYSE launched India’s First & Largest Fractionally Owned Solar Power Plant in Karnataka

Pyse Fintech Pvt. Ltd.(PYSE), an investment platform, has launched India’s first and largest fractionally-owned solar power plant in Karnataka. The platform allows retail investors to invest in sustainable projects that create social and environmental impacts from a ticket size as low as Rs 5,000.

• The plant is set to be commissioned by the end of July 2022 and is designed to offset 65 lakh kgs of carbon footprint every year for the next 25 years.

Highlights:
i.It is a Rs 26 crore solar power project with an average investor share of Rs 25,000.

• The project will help in strengthening leadership positions in the renewable energy sector and also help India in achieving SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) to tackle climate change-related issues.
• The project is supported by more than 600 retail investors.

ii.The project is strategically divided into four tranches with the first three tranches worth Rs 16 crore.  PYSE will launch the Tranche 4th and final tranche with a minimum investment of Rs 5,00,000.

• Tranche 1, 2, and 3 had been oversubscribed by 2.5x and the money was raised on an average of 3 days.

Point to be noted: The Bhadla Solar Park in Rajasthan(14000 acres) is the largest solar power park in the world.

Credit Card Issuances and Spends Hit a Record High in May 2022

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data, Credit card spends has reached an all-time high of Rs 1.14 trillion in May 2022, 7.8 % higher than the Rs. 1.05 lakh crore spent in April 2022.
Credit card spending increased by 118 percent year over year (YoY) and by 8% month over month, due to robust e-commerce spending, high-value expenditure on travel, tourism, and discretionary items.

• Additionally, 1.7 million new credit cards were added to the banking system in May 2022, the most in 27 months and 23.2% more than in May 2021.
• With the additions made in May 2022, India’s overall card base has increased to 76.9 million, demonstrating that the retail economy remains strong.

Key Statistics:
i. According to Motilal Oswal, a financial services firm, there were 7.68 crore outstanding credit cards in May 2022, up from 7.51 crore in April 2022. On a YoY basis, this was an increase of 23.3 % from the 6.23 crore credit cards used in May 2021.
ii.May 2022 saw the addition of 38,500 new cards from Housing Development Finance Corporation Limited (HDFC) Bank, followed by 21,500 from Axis Bank, 21,200 from ICICI Bank, and 21,500 from SBI Card (20,200).
iii. In May 2022, the HDFC Bank, the second-largest lender in India, held the highest number of credit cards (1.72 crore), following the RBI’s lifting of the ban on the issuance of new credit cards in March 2022.

• At the end of May 2022, HDFC Bank was followed by the State Bank of India (SBI) (1.41 crore) and ICICI Bank (1.33 crore).

iv.The biggest incremental growth in credit card spending was recorded by IndusInd Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank, at 17% and 15%, respectively. All other players experienced growth in the 4–9% range.

• American Express, on the other hand, experienced a 2% month-over-month fall.

NABARD Chairman Highlights the Role of Self Help Group

Govinda Rajulu Chintala(GR Chintala), the Chairman of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) stated that the Self Help Groups(SHGs) plays a vital role in empowering women and making them economically strong and self-reliant.

• While addressing the member of SHGs during his visit to Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank (KVGB) in Dharwad, Karnataka he highlighted that SHGs were created with an objective to liberate women and release them from the economic and social bondage, and to equip women with the capacity to take independent decisions.

NABARD signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Canara Bank for the formation and linking of Joint Liability Groups (JLGs). Under this MoU, Canara bank will form and credit link 2,510 JLGs in Karnataka.

Cashfree Payments & EasyTransfer Partners to Offer International Payments Services

Cashfree Payments India Private Limited (Cashfree Payments) has partnered with EasyTransfer, China’s largest online financial service platform for overseas students, to offer a faster, easier, and cheaper platform for Indian students to make fee payments to universities and educational institutions abroad.
This partnership will enable the Indian students to make educational payments directly through their existing bank accounts and eliminate the need to set up new accounts for this purpose.

• EasyTransfer and Cashfree Payments have streamlined India’s Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) declaration process. This allows payments to be completed fully online.
• The EasyTransfer payments platform fully customised for Indian international students and their families will be launched by early June.

The Reliance Industries (RIL) Chairperson & Managing Director(MD), Mukesh Ambani resigned from the Board of Directors (BoD) of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd(Reliance Jio), the digital and telecom arm of RIL.

• Akash M. Ambani, Non-executive Director of Reliance Jio Infocomm and son of Mukesh Ambani takes over as the Chairman of the board of directors of Reliance Jio. The resignation of Mukesh Ambani as Director of the company with effect from June 27, 2022.

Highlights:
i.Mukesh Ambani will continue to be the Chairman of Jio Platforms Ltd, the flagship company that owns all Jio digital services brands including Reliance Jio Infocomm.
ii.The Reliance Jio BoDs approved the appointment of Pankaj Mohan Pawar as Managing Director (MD) of the company for a period of 5 years commencing from June 27, 2022.

SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank Acquire 9.54% Stakes each in Perfios AA

On 28 June 2022, The State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank  acquired a 9.54 per cent stake each in Perfios Account Aggregation Services Private Limited (Perfios AA).

• Perfios AA, is a Bengaluru-based Reserve Bank of India (RBI)-registered Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC)-Account Aggregator.

Highlights:
i.The three banks acquired 8,05,520 equity shares each by paying Rs 4.03 crore each for the stakes. The investments will be subject to the approval of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
ii.The lenders bought the shares at a price of Rs 50 apiece, according to regulatory filings.

Indigenously-developed Laser-Guided ATGM successfully tested by DRDO & Indian Army

On June 28, 2022, an indigenously-developed Laser-Guided Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) was successfully test-fired from Main Battle Tank (MBT) Arjun by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Army at KK Ranges near Ahmednagar, Maharashtra.

• This test was supported by the Armoured Corps Centre & School (ACC&S), Ahmednagar.
• The ATGM successfully defeated the target at minimum ranges which resulting in the establishment of its capability to engage targets from minimum to maximum ranges. It will enhance the fire power of the MBT Arjun.

About Laser-Guided ATGM:
It has been developed by two Pune (Maharashtra) based facilities of the DRDO’s Armament and Combat Engineering (ACE) Cluster viz. Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL); in association with Instruments Research and Development Establishment (IRDE), Dehradun (Uttarakhand).
i.It has multi-platform launch capability and is currently undergoing technical evaluation trials from 120 mm rifled gun of MBT Arjun.
ii.It uses tandem High Explosive Anti-Tank (HEAT) warhead to defeat Explosive Reactive Armour (ERA) protected armoured vehicles in ranges from 1.5 to 5 kilometre.
iii.MBT Arjun is a multi-laboratory programme of DRDO with Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (CVRDE) as the lead Laboratory.

• The term tandem means missiles using more than one detonation to effectively penetrate the protective armours of the adversary tanks.

NASA’s CAPSTONE Mission Launches to the Moon

On 28th June 2022, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)’s CAPSTONE, 12-unit CubeSate lunar orbiter was successfully launched on Rocket Lab’s Electron rocket from the Rocket Lab Launch Complex 1 on the Mahia Peninsula, New Zealand, which marks the first-of-its kind for both Rocket Lab and NASA.

• The mission’s aim is to allow future spacecraft to determine their location without relying on Earth-based tracking.
• Te microwave-oven sized CubeSat was designed and built by Tyvak Nano-Satellite Systems, a Terran Orbital Corporation. 
• The spacecraft belongs to and will be managed by US based company Advanced Space.

Key Highlights:
i.The Cislunar Autonomous Positioning System Technology Operations and Navigation Experiment (CAPSTONE) is a low-cost mission that carries a payload flight computer and radio that performs calculations to determine 55-pound (25 kilograms) CubeSat, a microwave size satellite’s location in its orbital path.

• The CubeSat satellite will use NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) as a reference point to know its position in space.
• CAPSTONE is attached to Rocket Lab’s Lunar Photon, an interplanetary third stage that will send CAPSTONE on its way to deep space.

ii.Here, the CAPSTONE will communicate directly with LRO to measure its distance from LRO and how fast the distance between them changes, through which CubeSat’s position in space can be determined.
iii.This information will be used to evaluate Cislunar Autonomous Positioning System (CAPS), CAPSTONE’s autonomous navigation software to determine spacecraft’s location instead of depending on Earth-based tracking.

Additional info:
i.The launch of the CAPSTONE mission is an important milestone for the Artemis missions.
ii.The destination for this microwave oven-size CubeSat is a near rectilinear halo orbit (NRHO).
iii.This orbit is located at a precise balance point in the gravities of Earth and the Moon.
iv.This mission offers stability for long-term missions like Gateway, a Moon-orbiting outpost that is part of NASA’s Artemis program.
v.NASA’s Artemis mission aims to put humans back on the moon for the first time after the Apollo 17 mission, fifty years ago. The space agency has built the most powerful rocket ever, the Space Launch System (SLS), which will carry all the spacecraft parts of Artemis missions.

Indian Coast Guard Commissions Indigenous ‘ALH MK-III’ HelicopterOn 28th June 2022 Indian Coast Guard (ICG) commissioned the 835 Squadron (CG), indigenous advanced light helicopter (ALH) DHRUV MK-III aircraft at Porbandar port, Gujarat. It was commissioned by ICG director general Virender Singh Pathania at the force’s air enclave on the west coast and is commanded by Commandant Sunil Dutt.

• They undertake maritime reconnaissance along with Search and Rescue (SAR) during day and night and even while operating from ships.

Key Highlights:
i.The ALH MK III helicopters have been indigenously manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) with a state-of-the-art equipment including advanced RADAR, Electro optical sensors, Shakti engines, full glass cockpit, high-intensity searchlight, advanced communication systems, automatic identification system and SAR homer.
ii.The aircraft has the capability to shift from an offensive platform with heavy machine gun to a benign that carries a Medical Intensive Care Unit.
iii.Until now, 13 ALH MK-III aircraft have been inducted in the ICG in a phased manner and 4 are at Porbandar, Gujarat.
Note – The 835 Squadron (CG) has flown over 1,200 hours and conducted numerous operational missions, including the maiden night search and rescue mission off the Diu coast since its induction.

Cricket: India Defeats Ireland In A Two-Match T20I series

Indian Cricket Team led by Hardik Pandya for the Ireland series – 2022 has defeated Ireland cricket team led by Andrew Balbirnie in both the Twenty 20 International (T20I) and won “Joy E-Bike Electrifying Cup”. The match took place from 26 June to 28 June 2022 in Malahide Cricket Club (The Village), Malahide, Ireland.

• Umran Malik from Jammu and Kashmir has made his debut into the Indian Cricket Team and also took a wicket in his 2nd match (1/42 in 4 overs).

Deepak Hooda is named as the Player of the series for his excellent batting performance in both the T20I’s by scoring 151 runs in both the matches.

Bolat Turlykhanov Cup 2022, Kazakhstan: India Secured 6 Gold Medals

India’s National champion Aman Sehrawat won the gold medal in the freestyle Men’s 57 Kg category at the United World Wrestling(UWW)’s Bolat Turlykhanov Cup 2022 held in Almaty, Kazakhstan from 2nd to 5th June 2022.Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Bajrang Punia won the bronze in Freestyle Men’s 65kg category.

i.India has secured 12 medals:

Women: 5 gold, 1 Silver and 2 bronze;

• 5 women’s gold were: Mansi Ahlawat (57kg); Sarita Mor (59kg); Sakshi Malik (62kg); Manisha (65kg); and Divya Kakran (68kg).

Men’s Freestyle: 1 gold, 2 bronze and Men’s Greco-Roman: 1 bronze.

• Aman Sehrawat (57 kg) won one men’s gold medal.

OBITUARY

Legendary Indian Hockey Player Varinder Singh Passes Away in JalandharOn 27th June 2022 a 75 year old, Indian hockey Olympic medalist and World Championship medalist Varinder Singh passed away in Jalandhar, Punjab. He was born on 16th May 1947 in Jalandhar, Punjab (then British Raj), India.
His achievements:
i.Varinder Singh was part of the bronze medal-winning Indian men’s hockey team at the 1972 Munich Olympics and was an integral member of India’s dominant hockey team in the 1970s.
ii.His achievements also include a Gold medal at the 1975 Men’s Hockey World Cup in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia which is noted to be the only Gold medal in the World Cup Championship. 
iv.He won a silver medal at the 1974 and 1978 Asian Games and has also featured in the 1975 Montreal Olympics. He also won the silver medal at 1973 World Cup in Amsterdam.
v.Award – He was conferred with the prestigious Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.

The noted lyricist, author and journalist, Chowalloor Krishnankutty passed away at the age of 86 in Thrissur, Kerala. He was born on July 11, 1936, at Variyath, Chowalloor in Thrissur of Kerala.
i.He won the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi and Kerala Sahitya Akademi awards, Krishnankutty and also served as the vice-chairman of the Kerala Kalamandalam.
ii.He also made his mark as a screen writer in Malayalam movies and produced documentaries on some well-known Kathakali artists. 
iii.Krishnankutty penned over 3000 devotional songs and authored more than 200 books. He retired as an Assistant Editor with the Malayala Manorama daily.

National Statistics Day 2022 – June 29 

National Statistics Day(Statistics Day) is annually observed across India on 29th June to recognise the role and importance of statistics in socio-economic planning and policy formulation.29th June 2022 marks the observance of the 16th Statistics Day. 

• The day marks the celebration of the birth anniversary of Professor(late) Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis (PC Mahalanobis), known as the “Father of Indian Statistics” and recognises his notable contributions in the fields of statistics and economic planning.
• The theme of National Statistics Day(Statistics Day) 2022 is “Data for Sustainable Development”.

Background:
i.The Government of India has designated the 29th June of every year as “Statistics Day”, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Professor(late) Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis.
ii.The Statistics Day is designated in the category of Special Days to be celebrated at the National Level.

• The first ever National Statistics Day was celebrated on 29th June 2007.

International Day of the Tropics 2022 – June 29The United Nations(UN)’s International Day of the Tropics is annually observed across the globe on 29th June to create awareness about the specific challenges faced by tropical areas and to highlight the important role of the tropical countries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).

• The day also celebrates the diversity of the tropics and highlights the unique challenges and opportunities of the tropics.

Background:
The United Nations General Assembly(UNGA) adopted the resolution A/RES/70/267 on 14th June 2016 and proclaimed the 29th June of every year as the International Day of the Tropics.
Why June 29?
The 29th June was chosen to honour the anniversary of the launch of the 1st edition of “State of the Tropics Report” on 29th June 2014.

Justice Ujjal Bhuyan takes oath as HC Chief Justice of Telangana

On 28th June 2022, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Telangana High Court in a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan. Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan administered the oath of office to Justice Bhuyan. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao also attended the swearing-in ceremony held at Raj Bhavan.
i.On June 19 2022, the Union government appointed Justice Ujjal Bhuyan as the new Chief Justice. He succeeded Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, who was transferred to the Delhi High Court.
ii.Previously, Justice Bhuyan took oath as judge of Telangana High Court in October, 2021 He is also the Executive Chairman of Telangana State Legal Services Authority.
