HAL, Alliance Air inked pact to deploy Civil Do-228 Plane in Arunachal PradeshHAL, Alliance Air join forces to supply civil Do-228 planei.On September 26, 2021, the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) inked a leased agreement with Alliance Air Aviation Limited for the deployment of two HAL’s Civil Dornier-228 (Do-228) aircraft in Arunachal Pradesh (AR).
ii.This deal envisages enhancing Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) in the region as it will connect remote parts of AR.
iii.It was signed by Apurba Roy, General Manager, Transport Aircraft Division, Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), HAL and Arun Kumar Bansal, Head of Engineering, Alliance Air Aviation Limited in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

  • From the North East States, the traditional brew of Dimasa community, Judima from Assam and Naga Cucumber from Nagaland known for its high potassium content also bagged GI tags.

About GI Tag
i.A GI is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin.
ii.GI are part of the intellectual property rights that comes under the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Proper.
iii.In India, GI registration is done by the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act of 1999.

ii.The US is committed to enhance Nationally Determined Contribution to reduce economy-wide greenhouse gas emissions by 50-52% below 2005 levels in 2030. It is also supporting India for the deployment of 450 GW (GigaWatt) of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

PM Modi launches Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission

The Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi launched ‘Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission’ (ABDM) via video conference.The program was organized on World Tourism Day (27th September). It was launched in the presence of Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare.

Objective – To develop the integrated digital health infrastructure of the country.

  • Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission will provide a digital health ID to people which will contain their health records.This mission was launched under the pilot project National Digital Health Mission (NDHM).
  • The mission was launched under the pilot project National Digital Health Mission (NDHM).
  • It will help connect digital health solutions  of hospitals across the country. All Indians will get a digital health ID under this scheme. Every citizen’s health record will now be digitally secure.

i.The NDHM is implemented by the National Health Authority (NHA) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

World’s highest EV charging station inaugurated at Kaza, Himachal Pradesh

The world’s highest Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station was inaugurated at 500 feet in Kaza, in the Spiti Valley, Lahaul and Spiti district, Himachal Pradesh. The charging station will support all EV Scooters and cars. 

  • The EV charging facility was installed by goEgo Network, a Pune-based EV Charging infra startup.
  • Bharat AC and Dual Socket Type 2 Chargers, installed by goEgo in Western Himalayas have ‘Make in India’ certification and compliance with the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and Open Charge Alliance(OCA) Certification.
  • goEgo collaborated with TVS Motor Company to promote EV infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh.

Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi visited the United States of America (USA) from 22 to 25 September 2021 and participated in the 1st in-person QUAD Leaders’ Summit in Washington D.C., the USA, along with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, and US President Joe Biden.

  • The QUAD meeting was hosted by Joe Biden. QUAD (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue) countries – includes India, Japan, the USA, and Australia.
  • The 1st-ever QUAD Leaders’ summit was held virtually in March 2021.

Key Points:
i.Fellowship programme: They have announced a fellowship programme to allow students from the 4 countries to pursue degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) at US universities.
ii.PM addressed the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 25, 2021.
iii.PM had a meeting with Kamala Harris, Vice President of the USA, in Washington DC and discussed India’s National Hydrogen Energy Mission (NHEM).
iv.The PM had a Bilateral meeting with Australian PM Scott Morrison ahead of the Quad Leaders’ Summit and discussed the issues of bilateral, regional and global importance.

  • The Minister stressed on the need to engagement with member countries to address misinformation during an infodemic and learn from each other to understand the issues and to find suitable solutions to address them.
  • India was also among the co-authors of a first of its kind Cross-Regional Statement on “Infodemic” in the Context of COVID-19.

Objectives of the Summit
i.To create an International Observatory on Information and Democracy responsible for analysing global information trends.
ii.Fostering ties between the International Partnership for Information and Democracy and international organisations.
International Partnership on Information and Democracy
i.It is an intergovernmental non-binding agreement endorsed by 43 countries around the world to promote and implement democratic principles in the global information and communication space.
ii.India is founding member and signatory of International Partnership for Information and Democracy
iii.It was launched in New York on 26 September 2019, in the framework of the Alliance for Multilateralism. With an aim to promote freedom of opinion and expression and access to free, pluralistic and reliable information.
South Africa to host 10th Global MIL Week from Oct 24
The tenth edition of UNESCO’s Global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week with the theme Media and Information Literacy for all , will be hosted by South Africa from 24 to 31 October 2021.

  • Global MIL Week 2021 highlights will include the eleventh MIL and Intercultural Dialogue Conference and sixth Youth Agenda Forum.
  • It was initiated in 2012, is led by UNESCO in cooperation with the UNESCO MIL Alliance, the UNESCO-UNAOC MIL and Intercultural Dialogue (MILID) University Network, and other partners.

ICICI Bank Offers OD Facility to Sellers Registered on Amazon India

ICICI Bank partnered with Amazon India to offer an overdraft (OD) facility up to Rs 25 lakh to individual sellers and small businesses registered on the e-commerce marketplace amazon.in.

  • Objective: To enable easy and trusted access to credit for sellers at low costs.

Key Points:
i.The partnership will enable the ICICI bank customers who are registered with amazon.in as a seller to avail an OD from the ICICI Bank through a fully digital process i.e from obtaining an application to sanction to disbursement.The seller is redirected to ICICI Bank’s ‘InstaOD’ platform to avail this OD Facility.
ii.The process was controlled by API (Application Programming Interface) integration and the OD facility functions based on the scorecard to instantly evaluate the credit worthiness of sellers based on their financial profile, including Credit Bureau scores.
iii.The customers of other banks/new to ICICI Bank will be offered the OD after opening the current account with the bank and KYC (Know Your Customer) validation.

ICRA Revised India’s FY22 GDP Growth Forecast to 9%Icra revises up FY22 GDP growth forecast to 9%The ICRA (formerly known as Investment Information and Credit Rating Agency of India Limited) has revised India’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth projection in FY22 from 8.5 percent (June 2021) to 9 percent.

Key Points of ICRA’s Projections:
i.It has revised the GVA (gross value added) growth estimate for agriculture, forestry and fishing in the second and third quarter (Q2 &Q3) of 2021-22 to 3 percent each from its earlier projection of 2 per cent.
ii.Government Spending: The government’s spending was contracted by 4.7 percent in April-July 2021 year-on-year, and stood at 28.8 percent of the 2021-22 Budget Estimation.

  • ICRA expects a higher amount of spending by the government in the second half of FY22.

iii.ICRA has stated COVID-19 vaccination, healthy advance estimates of Kharif (summer) crop and faster government spending as the factors for improved projection of GDP. It expects higher GDP growth in the second half of FY22.

September 17, 2021.

  • CLC was formulated to promote ease of doing business to law abiding corporates, to foster improved corporate compliance for stakeholders, and to address issues impacting the working of companies.
  • The tenure of CLC was also extended in 2020 by 1 year.

It is an 11-member committee constituted in 2019 by MCA to examine and make recommendations to the government on issues related to implementation of the Companies Act 2013 and the Limited Liability Partnership Act 2008.

Lunar Crater Named After Arctic Explorer Matthew HensonLunar Crater Named After Arctic Explorer Matthew HensonThe International Astronomical Union(IAU) has named a crater at the Moon’s south pole after Matthew Henson, an African-American Arctic explorer, who was the 1st person to stand at the very top of the world.

  • Henson crater is located in the South Pole of the Moon, between Sverdrup and de Gerlache craters.
  • Jordan Bretzfelder, an Exploration Science summer intern at Lunar and Planetary Institute, Houston, Texas proposed to name the crater after Matthew Henson.

Lunar and Planetary Institute is a member of the Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute, headquartered in Ames Research Center (National Aeronautics and Space Administration- NASA).
Artemis program & Henson Crater:
i.The location of Henson Crater is the region where the Artemis lunar exploration program of NASA is set to land the next generation of lunar explorers.
ii.The Artemis program aims to land the first woman and first person of colour on the moon.

i.Matthew Henson was born in 1866 in Maryland, was well known as the co-discoverer of the North Pole with Robert Edwin Peary in 1909.

Background:
i.World Contraception Day was established by 10 International Family planning organisations to create awareness about contraception.
ii.The first ever World Contraception day was observed on 26th September 2007.
iii.At present, the WCD is supported by a coalition of 15 international NGOs, governmental organisations, and scientific and medical societies across the globe.
Sexual & Reproductive health-care services & SDG:
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, target 3.7 states, by 2030, ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive healthcare services, including for family planning, information and education, and the integration of reproductive health into national strategies and programmes.
Key Points:
i.Around 255 million women in developing countries do not have access to modern contraceptive methods.
ii.In 2019, Among the 1.9 billion Women of Reproductive Age groups across the globe, 842 million are using contraceptives and 270 million do not have access to contraception.
iii.Globally, the number of women using contraceptive methods would increase by 778 million in 2030.

The day also highlights the contributions of the tourism sector towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).

WTD 2021:
The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has designated World Tourism Day 2021 as a day to focus on “Tourism for Inclusive Growth” as the COVID-19 pandemic has had a massive social and economic impact on both developed and developing countries.
Background:
i.In September 1979, during the 3rd session of the UNWTO General Assembly held in Torremolinos, Spain, the UNWTO General Assembly decided to proclaim the 27th September of every year as the “World Tourism Day” starting from 1980.
ii.The first World Tourism Day was observed on 27th September 1980. 
Why September 27?
September 27th was chosen to commemorate the adoption of UNWTO statutes on 27th September 1970.

  • The birth anniversary of Upadhyay is being celebrated as ‘Samarpan Divas’ across the country.

Highlights:
i.The voluntary services offered by the people through the web portal   will be linked to various programmes of the government such as in the sectors of education, women and child development, farmer welfare, etc.
ii.The voluntary services could help the government and the local community in fulfilling the goal of good governance.
Launch of the official website of the Foreign Cooperation Department (FCD)
