ISRO tests hybrid propulsion system that uses Solid Fuel, Liquid Oxidiser
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully tested a 30 kN hybrid motor, a new propulsion system for the forthcoming launch vehicles, at ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC) at Mahendragiri in Tamil Nadu (TN).
- The hybrid motor uses Hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) as fuel and liquid oxygen (LOX) as the oxidizer, unlike solid-solid or liquid-liquid combinations.
About hybrid motor test:
The test was conducted by Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) with support from the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC).
