On 19th March 2021, the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state of Arunachal Pradesh for implementing its flagship program, “Mechanism for marketing of Minor Forest Produce (MFP) through Minimum Support Price (MSP) & development of value chain for MFP” scheme and Van Dhan Yojana.
State Implementing Agency- Arunachal Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission (ArSRLM)
Nodal Agency- Rural Development Department, Arunachal Pradesh
Objective- To improve the livelihood of Tribal artisans & Forest dwellers.Under the MoU, 100 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras will be set up in Arunachal in 2021.
About MSP for MFP scheme:
Aim- To provide remunerative price to the forest dwellers as MSP thereby cutting exploitation done by middlemen.
i.In the 2020 pandemic, the scheme was responsible for injecting Rs. 3000 crore in the tribal economy.
ii.At present, 23 Minor Forest Produces (MFP’s) are covered under the Scheme.
About Van Dhan Vikas Yojana:
Objective- To establish Van Dhan Vikas Kendras for Value addition, Branding & Marketing of MFPs.
- Currently, 1770 Van Dhan Kendras (VDKs) in 21 States and 1 UT have been sanctioned by TRIFED. Including 586 VDKs in North-eastern India.
