Union HRD Minister and Union Health Minister jointly release curriculum for School Health Ambassador Initiative under Ayushman BharatOn February 12, 2020, Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Ramesh Pokhriyal “Nishank”, Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Harsh Vardhan jointly released curriculum for School Health Ambassador Initiative under Ayushman Bharat’s School Health Programme (SHP)during an occasion in New Delhi. The objective behind this is to increase knowledge along with promoting consciousness about good health among students or children.
What is curriculum for School Health Ambassador?
As per the newly released curriculum teachers will act as “Health and Wellness Ambassadors” and will disseminate various key information by organising culturally sensitive activity based sessions for one hour per week for 24 weeks in a year to promote joyful learning. These ambassadors will be supported by class monitors as “Health and Wellness Messengers”. The first phase will launch in all the public upper primary, secondary and senior secondary schools of aspirational districts. Then, remaining districts will be taken up in the second year.

India bans E-Cigarettes on Flights and Airports
On January 10,2020, Aviation security regulator the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has issued a circular that Electronic-Cigarettes and all forms of Electronic Nicotine Delivery System(ENDS) will not be allowed in both domestic and International flights as well as at airports and the order, issued with the approval of DG (director general) BCAS, Rakesh Asthana, is valid from the date of issuance.
Key points:
i.Under the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act which is passed in December 2019, the government imposed ban on Production, Manufacture, Import, Export, Transport, Sale, Distribution, Storage and Advertisement of E-cigarettes and other ENDS devices which heats the Nicotine flavor, Except the products got licensed under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940.
ii.The circular also announced that the offenders will be sentenced into prison upto one year and also a fine of Rs. 1 lakh. In case of repeat offenders, jail term is increased to 3 years with Rs. 5 lakhs fine.

MP CM Inaugurates National Water Conference at Bhopal
On February 11,2020, The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shri Kamal Nath has inaugurated the National water conference at Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The conference is being held to finalize the guidelines of “Right to Water Act” or “Water Rights Act” and also discussed the water crisis in the state and also making the state a water-rich state.

Cabinet approves to infuse Rs 2500 crore as capital in OICL, NICL and UIICL
Cabinet has given it’s in principle approval for capital infusion for three Public Sector General Insurance Companies (PSGICs), namely, Oriental Insurance Company Limited (OICL), National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) and United India Insurance Company Limited (UIICL). In this regard, Rs 2500 crore will be released reflecting critical financial position of these 3 PSGICs.
Cabinet nod to changes in Vivad se Vishwas Bill to reduce tax litigations
The Union Cabinet approved changes in the ‘Direct Tax Vivad se Vishwas Bill, 2020’ with the aim of reducing litigations related to direct taxes pending in various debt recovery tribunals (DRTs) involving over Rs 9.32 lakh crore . The bill introduced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Union Budget 2020 proposed to cover tax disputes pending at the level of commissioner (appeals), Income Tax Appellate Tribunals (ITAT), high courts and the Supreme Court.

43rd Governing council meet of IFAD 2020 held in Rome, ItalyA 2-day long 43rd session of the annual Governing Council meeting of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) 2020 based on the theme “Investing in sustainable food systems to end hunger by 2030” was held at FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) headquarters in Rome, Italy from February 11- 12, 2020.

i.The event,opened by President of the Republic of Mali , Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, witnessed interactive sessions on how IFAD’s role and experience in supporting sustainable, inclusive, nutritious and efficient food systems place it in a unique position to contribute to eliminate hunger.
ii.It was also announced at the meet that the UN (United Nations) will not be able to achieve the target of Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 due to the lack of funds & it will be achieved only by 2040 with an annual investment of more than $115 billion.

Induslnd Bank records highest growth in brand value among Top 500 Banking Brands 2020
As per the The Banker’s ‘Top 500 Banking Brands 2020’ report, India’s IndusInd Bank has topped the list of ‘Highest increase in brand value’ among global banks.
It’s brand value saw an increase of 122% over the past 12 months. The bank reported total assets of Rs 3.1 lakh crore at the end of Q3 FY20.
As a part of the report, the list “Top 50 By Total Brand Value by Country” has been topped by China, followed by United States (US) at 2nd position while Canada and the United Kingdom (UK) ranked at 3rd and 4th spots. Japan has moved up to fifth spot.

EIU lowers Global Growth Forecast 2020 to 2.2% from 2.3%
On February 12, 2020, The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has revised its Global growth forecast for the year 2020 to 2.2 percent from the previous 2.3 percent, and is because of the Impact in Global market created by Novel coronavirus outbreak in China and also the virus starts spreading globally to put barrier for this, the Chinese Authorities are taking unexpected measures like isolating the infected cites, which is likely to have consequences on global economy announced by EIU in a report.

i.EIU also revised China’s growth downwards by lowering the real GDP (Gross Domestic Product) forecast for China in 2020 to 5.4 percent from 5.9 percent earlier, further in report EIU assumed that the spread of the virus will be under control by March-end.
ii.EIU also estimated the GDP growth for India to 6.1 percent for 2020 from 4.9 percent estimated for the year 2019, Low interest rate in India will increase the demand and Investment in 2020 and also the coronavirus does not spread in India are the reasons for the upward GDP growth.

Retail inflation rises to 7.59% in January 2020; industrial output declines 0.3% in December 2019: NSO data
On February 13, 2020, According to the data released by the National Statistical Organisation (NSO) of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Retail inflation rose to a 68-month high of 7.59 % in January 2020 as against 7.35% in December 2019 due to prices of food items such as vegetables, eggs, meat and fish, along with fuel became costlier.
On the other hand, Index of industrial production (IIP) can also be seen falling, with industrial production slipping 0.3 % in December 2019 as compared to 2.5 % growth in the same month a year ago.
i.Inflation:The retail inflation based on the consumer price index (CPI) stood at 7.35 percent in December 2019. In the month of January 2019 , it was 1.97 %.
The overall food inflation was 13.63 % in January 2020 as compared to a decrease of 2.24 % in January 2019 a year ago. However, it has come down to 14.19 % as of December 2019.

Facebook launched digital literacy training to 1 lakh women in 7 Indian states
On February 11, 2020 Facebook launched “We Think Digital” Programme to provide digital literacy training to 1 lakh women across 7 states, including Uttar Pradesh (UP),West Bengal & Bihar.
It has been launched in partnership with National Commission for Women (NCW) and Cyber Peace Foundation.

i.Developed by Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), it is India’s lightest level III plus bullet proof jacket (6.8 kgs nominal weight) based on indigenous hot pressed boron carbide and carbon nanotube technologies.
ii.It has qualified all the ballistic tests required as per the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) and the new Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

Puducherry becomes 1st UT to pass resolution against CAA, NRC, NPR in Assembly
On February 12, 2020,The Puducherry Legislative Assembly has passed a resolution against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019, the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the National Population Register (NPR).
Chief Minister (CM) of the Union Territory Puducherry,Velu Narayanasamy moved the resolution & demanded the withdrawal of these legislations from the Central Government. Assembly Speaker VP Sivakolundhu said that the proposal has been unanimously accepted.
With this, it has become the first Union Territory (UT) to pass a resolution against the CAA.
Key Points:
i.Earlier, the Legislative Assembly of Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh had passed a resolution against the CAA.
ii.Protests have been taking place nationwide since the passage of the CAA by Parliament in December 2019. It started in Northeast India. Specifically, large-scale protests took place in Assam.
iii.National Register of Citizens exercise to identify undocumented immigrants was carried out in Assam 2019 that excluded 19 lakh people.

“Operation Nakail” for Auto-rickshaws in Ghaziabad to bear unique number aim to curb crime
On February 07,2020, The Senior Superintendent of Police Kalanidhi Naithani has announced that the Ghaziabad police station in Uttar Pradesh has launched “Operation Nakail” under which all auto-rickshaw drivers are allotted with a unique 4-digit number and all the drivers should paint the number on front, left, right and rear side of the auto-rickshaw which is used identify/verify the driver later. Customers can file complaints using the number if they face any harassment.

UP Govt. Inks MoU With eGov Foundation for State-wide Implementation of Municipal Financial Accounting Platform
On February 12, 2020 A Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) was signed between the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government and eGov foundation, Bengaluru, Karnataka, to implement the municipal financial accounting system.
The MoU was signed by Sanjay Kumar Singh Yadav, Special Secretary, Urban Development, Govt. of UP and Viraj Tyagi, CEO (Chief Executive Officer), e-Gov foundation.
Key Points:
i.The municipal accounting reforms covers 652 ULBs (Urban Local Bodies) of UP.
ii.The main aim is to digitize the accounting operations & efficient interactions between citizens and city administration for the transparency in the system.
iii.eGov foundation will provide the accrual-based double-entry financial accounting application of DIGIT- India’s largest open source platform for urban governance.
iv.DIGIT (Digital Infrastructure for Governance, Impact & Transformation) financial accounting system, consists of expenditure & revenue management, income-expenditure tracking, financial ratios, bank reconciliation etc.,
v.The Urban sector of the UP govt., entered into a collaboration with eGov foundation on January 31, 2020 to reform the urban sector.
