World Vegetarian Day is celebrated annually on October 1. It is observed to promote Joy, Compassion and life-enhancing possibilities of Vegetarianism.Â
i.The World Vegetarian Day was founded in 1977 by North American Vegetarian Society (NAVS), and endorsed by International Vegetarian Union in 1978.Â
ii.It is also the First Day of Vegetarian Awareness Month (October).Â
Types of Vegetarian Diet:
- Vegan – Only plant-based food, excludes any product which is from animals.
- Lacto-Vegetarian – includes plant food and dairy products, excludes eggs.
- Lacto-ovo Vegetarian – includes plant food, dairy products and eggs.
