26th April 2020 is annually observed as World Intellectual Property Day established by World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in the year 2000 to create awareness about the impacts of patents, copyright, trademarks and designs and to educate about the roles of Intellectual Property (IP) rights that supports and encourages the innovation and creativity. The theme of this year is “Innovate for a Green Future”.Key points:
i.The date 26th April was chosen as it coincides with the date on which the convention establishing the WIPO entered into force in 1970.
ii.The world IP day is to address the gap between Intellectual Property as a legal concept and its relevance to daily life.
iii.The Intellectual Property system is applied to music, arts, entertainment, products and technological innovations.
iv.WIPO coordinated with the government agencies and other agencies to hold events and organise activities like, concerts, public performances, competitions on the theme related to the IP, exhibitions and seminars to create awareness on the IP to promote the World IP Day.
v.WIPO provides roving seminars to help researchers, businesses, lawyers and innovators to get the latest developments in the IP services and conducts workshops and training courses throughout the year in Geneva and all around the world.
vi.WIPO Academy offers distant learning and face to face courses on IP to improve the skills and knowledge.
