On 17th May 2020, Veteran Marathi writer, playwright Ratnakar Matkari passed away at 81 in a hospital at suburban Marol, Mumbai. Last week he was tested positive to coronavirus. He was born on 17th November 1938 in Mumbai, India.
Key Points:
i.He contributed in enriching the Marathi literature in various forms such as plays, short stories and novels for children as well as the grownups. He was known as the pioneer of the children drama movement in Marathi.
ii.He was the director and producer of numerous Marathi films and he was a self-taught artist and writer In the 1970’s he wrote many columns for multiple newspapers and magazines.
iii.He was known for his acting skills who made his mark in plays like Prem Kahani, Vinashakadun Vinashakade, Lokakatha 78 and State Lote.
iv.He was well known for his one-man show Adbhutachya Rajyat and his characters in the movies like Bhai – Vyakti Ki Valli 2 and Char Divas Premache.
v.He was a member of the advisory committee of All India Radio and Film scrutinising committee from 1988 to 1991
Awards:
i.He won the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his directorial front and presented a number of shows on Doordarshan Mumbai with Shardache Chandane for the script of the film Majhe Ghar, Majha Sansar
ii.His Film “Investment” won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi in 2012.He won the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in the year 2003.
