The Tiruchirappalli International Airport project(Trichy Airport Project) of ITD Cementation India Limited has been awarded the International Safety Award under the 1st- class merit category by the British Safety Council.
- ITD Cementation India Limited, engaged in the construction of the new terminal building in Trichy, Tamil Nadu, received the award on 10th May 2023.
- ITD Cementation India Limited received the award for demonstrating a strong commitment to good health and safety management in 2022.
Key points:
i. The airport project was selected for the award with 73.21% of the marks under the parameters fixed by the council for evaluation.
ii. ITD has already received an award from the National Safety Council of India (NSCI) for their achievement in occupational safety and health in 2019.
About the International Safety Awards:
i. The British Safety Council gives away awards to set health and safety standards and celebrate the best practice.
ii. International Safety Awards recognise an organisation’s commitment to excellent standards of health, safety, and well-being management at a specific site or business unit.
iii. International Safety Awards 2023 received more than 975 applications for the award, with 79% of them successfully achieving a Distinction, Merit or Pass grade.
iv. These winners included businesses from the United Kingdom (UK), Africa, Asia, India, continental Europe, and the Middle East, as well as organisations of all sizes, sorts, and industries.

Two Airports from Karnataka win Platinum Rating in ACI’s Green Airports Recognition
The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) and the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA), the 2 airports from Karnataka, have bagged the Platinum Category award in the Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific’s Green Airports Recognition 2023, for demonstrating outstanding accomplishments in their sustainability projects.
- MIA was awarded among the less than 8 million passengers per annum airports for the single-use plastic-free airport project.
- KIA bagged the platinum award for airports handling between 15-35 million passengers per annum for the project- plastics circularity at KIA.
The theme for the Green Airports Recognition 2023 is “Single-Use Plastic Elimination”.
Note: The 2 airports from Karnataka are among the 12 airports in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East to get the Green Airports Recognition 2023.
About Green Airports Recognition:
i. The Green Airports Recognition aims to promote environmental best practices to minimise aviation’s impact on the environment and recognise airport members who have outstanding accomplishments in their environmental projects.
ii. According to various airport size categories and set criteria, the outstanding airports are awarded into 3 categories: platinum, gold, or silver.
iii. The airports are divided into four categories based on the number of passengers they handle annually: over 35 million, between 15-35 million, between 8-15 million, and less than 8 million.
