On January 14, 2020, Nitin Jairam Gadkari ,the Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways and MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises), has presented the National Highways (NH) Excellence Awards 2019 to honor the 12 best performers in NH sectoron in New Delhi.Key Points:
i.The award was given in 7 categories for which a total of 104 applications from across the country were received in 2019.The 7 categories include, Excellence in Project Management, Excellence in Operation and Maintenance, Excellence in Toll Management, Excellence in Highway Safety, Innovation, Outstanding Work in Challenging Conditions, Green Highway.
ii.The applications were received on an online application platform designed by National Informatics Centre (NIC). An esteemed jury panel checked all the aspects of each project for the award. Also, Toll personnel with the best implementation of FASTag technology will be awarded for increased automation in toll collection.
About Fastag: It is an electronic toll collection system in India, operated by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). It uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to make toll payments directly from the prepaid or savings account linked to it or directly to toll owner.
NH Excellence Awards:
Instituted in the year 2018, National Highway Excellence Awards aims to recognize the well-performing companies in the field of construction, operations, maintenance, toll collection and road safety on National Highways.
