Indian businessman and Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, Ratan Tata has been awarded with an honorary doctorate by the Clemson University in the United States at the South Carolina Automotive Summit for his contribution to the Automotive Industry.

- Ratan Tata joined the Tata Group in 1962. In 1991, Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata stepped down as Chairman of Tata Sons, naming Ratan Tata as his successor.
- Under Ratan’s leaderdship, Tata Tea acquired Tetley and Tata Motors acquired Jaguar Land Rover.
- After Ratan’s appointment as the Chairman, Tata Sons had completely transformed from a India-centric company into a global business.Â
- Ratan Tata was conferred with Padma Bhusan (2000) and Padma Vibhusan (2008).Â
