Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, paid her maiden visit to Gujarat from October 3 to 4, 2022, after assuming office in July 2022. During her visit, she visited the Mahatma Gandhi Ashram at Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
- The President made a visit to Mahatma Gandhi’s Ashram residence, “Hridaykunj.”
Various Projects Launched by the President
President Draupadi Murmu inaugurated and laid the groundwork for a number of projects totaling Rs. 1,330 crore at the GMERS (Gujarat Medical Education & Research Society) campus in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
Health Projects
i.President Draupadi Murmu laid the foundation stone for Super Specialty Hospital, Trauma Centre, and Rain Basera, which will cost Rs. 373 crore at Gandhinagar Civil Hospital.
- The trauma centre will have 255 beds, while the new super specialty hospital will have 600 beds.
- In addition, Ren Basera will provide 448 bed facilities to be used by patients’ relatives.
ii.She also inaugurated the new GMERS Hospital and Medical College in Rajpipla, Narmada district (Gujarat), at a cost of Rs. 530 crore, via video conferencing.
- Every year, 100 students will be admitted to the new medical college for the MBBS graduate level degree.
- The 540-bed, cutting-edge hospital would benefit the residents of Narmada district, where 85% of the population is tribal.
Education Projects
In Gujarat, she has also launched educational initiatives like the Sainik School, the Girls Literacy Residential School, and the Eklavya Model Residential School.
President of India Launches ‘HERSTART’ – A Start-Up Platform of Gujarat University for Women Entrepreneurs
On October 4, 2022, the President launched “herSTART,” a Gujarat University start-up platform for women entrepreneurs, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
- She also virtually inaugurated/laid the foundation stone from Gujarat University for various projects of the Gujarat government related to education and tribal development.
About ‘herSTART’
i.“herSTART” is one of the initiatives of the Gujarat University Startup and Entrepreneurship Council (GUSEC), created with the goal of supporting women to pursue innovative ideas.
ii.The programme is open to all women entrepreneurs who seek to advance their innovative ideas, prototypes, or existing businesses.
- Innovations that are shortlisted may be eligible for leveraging benefits to develop their ideas.
Points to Remember with Respect to Gujarat
i.The “Garima Cell,” India’s first education quality and monitoring cell, was formed in Gujarat to assess higher education.
ii.Gujarat University alumni include Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, father of India’s space program and Dr. K. Kasturirangan, the former chairman of ISRO.
iii.Gujarat has accomplished 100% of its target for improved drinking water access.
iv.According to the Composite Water Management Index of NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India), Gujarat has been ranked No. 1 in India in water management for three years in a row.
v.According to NITI Aayog , Gujarat is ranked first in attaining Sustainable Development for Good Health and Wellbeing.
vi.The Global Centre for Traditional Medicine of the World Health Organization (WHO) will be established in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
