On August 31, 2024, the Prime Minister (PM) of India Narendra Modi inaugurated the two-day long ‘National Conference of District Judiciary’ at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Delhi. Organized by the Supreme Court of India (SCI), the event marked 75 years of the SCI.
- The conference aimed to address key challenges faced by the judiciary and enhance judicial administration. The event was attended by over 800 district judiciary participants from across India.
- The PM Narendra Modi unveiled the stamp and coin commemorating 75 years of the establishment of the SCI.
- The President of India, Draupadi Murmu, delivered the valedictory address and unveiled the new flag and insignia of the SCI.

The Chief Justice of India (CJI), Justice Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud; Judges of the Supreme Court(SC), Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice B R Gavai; Union Minister of State (MoS/Independent Charge) Arjun Ram Meghwal, Ministry of Law & Justice(MoL&J); Attorney General of India (AGI), R Venkataramani; President of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Kapil Sibbal, among others.
Key Points:
i.The two-day conference hosted five working sessions focusing on issues related to the district judiciary, including infrastructure, human resources, inclusive courtrooms, judicial security and wellness, case management, and judicial training.
ii.It was highlighted that India has invested approximately Rs 8,000 crore in the development of judicial infrastructure.
iii.The conference provided a platform for stakeholders to engage in meaningful dialogue for timely, fair, and accessible justice for all citizens.
PM Modi unveiled the stamp and coin:
i.The PM Narendra Modi unveiled the stamp with a value of Rs.10 to commemorating 75 years of the establishment of the SCI.
ii.The PM also unveiled Rs.75 coin which is made up of Pure Silver with a diameter of 44 millimeter(mm) and weighs 40 grams.
- Obverse:The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the center with the legend “सत्यमेव जयते”
- Reverse: The face of the coin shall bear the symbolic image of Ashoka Chakra, building of Supreme Court of India and a book. “75 Years”, “यतो धर्मस्ततो जयः” and the year “2024” is written below the image.
Note: In 1999, Rs 50 and Rs 2 coins were issued to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the SCI.
President of India Unveils Flag and Insignia of SCI:
President Draupadi Murmu unveiled the new flag and insignia of SCI, both of which are conceptualized by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi. They symbolize justice and democracy.
- The flag is blue in colour featuring Ashoka Chakra, the SCI building, and the Constitution of India.
- It also features the Sanskrit shloka “Yato Dharmastato Jayah“ ((in Devanagari script) meaning “Where there is Dharma, there is victory“.
- The insignia, colored navy blue, includes the same motto and features an image of the SCI building with the Ashok Chakra above it.
