On the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day on 24th of April 2020, three Panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Union Territory-UTÂ & Odisha’s (State) has clinched national awards under separate categories for their outstanding performance in strengthening rural democracy.Here is the list of 3 awards won by J&K Panchayats:

i.A total of 30 gram panchayats (GP) from other states and union territories of India chosen for Child-Friendly Gram Panchayat Award 2020; 28 GPs receives award for Gram Panchayat Development Plans; And 27 GPs gets NDRGGSP award.

About Panchayat Awards:
- Instituted by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR), Government of India (GoI), it honours the best performing Panchayats recommended by the State Governments/UT Administrations since 2011-12. The awards are given on the National Panchayati Raj Day every year.
- Every year awards are given under different categories namely, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar (DDUPSP), Nanaji Deshmukh Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Puraskar (NDRGGSP), Child-friendly Gram Panchayat Award (CFGPA), Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) Award and e-Panchayat Puraskar (given to States/UTs only).
But this year due to lockdown only 3 category awards are given.Remaining 2 awards(Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar (DDUPSP) & e-Panchayat Puraskar) were not yet finalized.Once finalized it will be announced.
About NDRGGSP award:
It is given to Gram Panchayats only for its great contribution to socio-economic development by involving Gram Sabhas.Rs 10 lakh will be awarded to the winners.
About GPDP Award:
Introduced in 2018,it has been given to encourage the GPs which have formulated their GPDPs according to the State/UT guidelines prepared in line with the models guidelines issued by MoPR.Rs five lakh will be awarded to winners.
About CFGPA award:
It is given for best performing Gram Panchayats (GPs)/Village Councils (VCs) (one in each State/UT) for adopting child-friendly practices.Rs.5 lakh will be awarded to the winners.
