Tree Tag, a green start-up founded by climate-conscious individuals from Kerala, striving to reduce carbon emissions through tech-integrated afforestation projects, has won the Climathon 2022, the hackathon held at Kerala Technology Innovation Zone (KTIZ), Kochi, Kerala from 26 to 27th November 2022.
- The Tree Tag team won the award under the category of Life On Land, addressing the problem statement such as ‘monitoring and protecting existing forest eco-systems’.
- Tree Tag team including Abhijith Kumar Meenakumari, Chief Executive Officer(CEO), Aashutosh B Sai, Chief Technology Officer(CTO), Mohamed Wazeer Chief Operating Officer(COO) and Anoop Babu Chief Strategy Officer(CSO) received a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh.
Climathon 2022:
i. Climathon-2022 was organised by Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) in association with EY Global Delivery Services (GDS), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Startup India, Global Shapers Kochi, the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), and The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) Kerala.
ii. Climathon-2022 focused on climate change with the theme- ‘Securing a sustainable and climate-resilient future’.
iii. The hackathon was held in 4 phases, which received 174 ideations across India for 16 problem statements under 7 Sustainable Development Goals.
Goal: To unite entrepreneurs, innovators, students, researchers, technicians, and committed professionals to develop answers to find solutions to the challenges posed by climate change.
Problem Statements of Climathon-2022 were Climate Action; No Poverty; Sustainable Cities and Communities; Affordable and Clean Energy; Responsible Consumption and Production; Life Below Water; and Life On Land

Kerala’s Man-Animal Conflict Mitigation Team selected for Wildlife Trust of India Award
The Wildlife Trust of India has selected the Man-Animal Conflict Mitigation Team, an 8-member team, from Chinnakkanal (Munnar forest division), Kerala, for its award this year (2022) for reducing incidents of man-animal conflict in the region.
- The Man-Animal Conflict Mitigation Team had been selected for its work in ensuring the protection of wild elephants and people in the region.
- The team will receive the award on 2nd December 2022, at ‘Aa Aana’, a month-long exhibition that started on 1st December 2022 in Fort Kochi, Kerala.
Key Points:
i. The 8-member team was constituted by the Forest Department to reduce the man-animal conflict in Chinnakkanal, after a 60-year-old man was trampled to death by a wild elephant in March 2022.
ii. Since 2010, the Munnar wildlife division recorded 42 deaths by wild elephants.
