India wrestlers won a total ofĀ 14 medals(4 golds, 3 silver and 7 bronze) in the World Under-20 Wrestling Championships 2023 held inĀ Amman, Jordan from 14th to 20th August 2023 .
- India also claimed its first women’s team title at the World Under-20 Wrestling Championships 2023 with seven medals(3 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze).
Highlights:
i.The 19-year-old Antim Panghal from Haryana won the gold in Women’s 53kg event defeating Mariia Yefremova of Ukraine .
- She is the first Indian woman to become an Under-20 (U-20) wrestling world champion in Sofia, Bulgaria in 2022.
- She became the first Indian woman wrestler to win two U-20 world championships.
ii.Priya Malik won the gold in women’s 76kg category by defeating Laura Celine Kuehn of Germany.
- She became the second Indian woman to win the U-20 world championship.
iii.Mohit Kumar became the U-20 world champion in the 61kg freestyle category (Menās) by defeating Eldar Akhmadudinov of Russia
ii.Savita Dalal won the gold in the Women’s 62kg category against Venezuelaās Astrid Paola Montero Chirinos.
- She had also won the under-17 World crown in Istanbul, Turkey in 2023.
v.Indian Menās team ranked 3rd in Freestyle category, Iran stood 1st.
Note:
India bagged 16 medals(1 gold, 4 silver and 11 bronze) in the previous edition held in 2022.

About World Under-20 Wrestling Championships 2023:
