IFFCO signs MoU with ICAROn June 10, 2020 Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Ltd(IFFCO) signs MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research(ICAR) for joint research, testing and validation of different products through ICAR institutes and Krishi Vigyan Kendras(KVKs)

  • The agreement enables the centers to disperse technological advancements through training programs, campaigns, field trials and demonstrations for the benefit of farmers.

Objective of the collaboration– To reduce farmers’s consumption of chemical fertilizers by effective use of technology.

People present during the signing of the agreement– Department of Agricultural Research and Education(DARE) Secretary and Director General(DG) of ICAR, Trilochan(T). Mohapatra and IFFCO Managing Director(MD) & Chief Executive Officer(CEO), U S Awasthi 

Key Points

Officials are expecting that this MoU will help to reduce the fertilizer consumption by at least 15% which would be the great contribution to agriculture.

What is KVK?

KVK(Agricultural Science Centres), an integral part of the National Agricultural Research System (NARS), was created by ICAR. It aims to evaluate location specific technology modules in agriculture and allied companies through technical evaluation, refining and demonstrations.

i.The KVK scheme is fully financed by the Govt. of India and the KVKs are sanctioned to Agricultural Universities, ICAR institutes, related Government Departments and Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) working in Agriculture.

ii.The 1st KVK was established in Pondicherry (1974) under the administrative control of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore
