England cricket team lead by Red Ball Captain – Ben Stokes has defeated the Indian cricket team led by Jasprit Bumrah in the 5th Test match (Rescheduled) and drawn the five-match series 2021/2022 (2-2) and the Pataudi Trophy was shared between two teams. The 5th test has been played from July 1 – July 5, 2022 in the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham, England.

  • The 5th test match has been postponed in 2021 due to the increase in Covid-19 cases.

Note:

For the first 4 test matches against England, which took place in 2021, India was led by Virat Kohli and England was led by Joe Root. They later stepped down from the Captaincy.

5th Test Match:

As England won the toss and elected to field which put India to bat and scored 416 runs (84.5) in the 1st Innings and 245 runs (81.5) in the 2nd Innings. Where England scored 284 runs (61.3) in the 1st Innings and 378/3 runs (76.4) in the 2nd Innings and won the match by 7 wickets.

Joe Root the number one-ranked Test batter was adjudged as the player of the series for his brilliant score 671 runs in the 5 match test series.

Joe Root has totaled 671 runs in a single series versus India, which is the most by any batsmen, previously Kohli scored 655 runs in 2016 vs England.

England cricket team recorded their highest successful run chase in Test cricket, by chasing 378 runs against India in the 2nd Innings with 7 wickets to spare.

Jasprit Bumrah

  • Jasprit Bumrah scored 35 runs (29 runs of his bat) in an over against Stuart Brad and breaks Brain Lara’s (West Indies) world record of 28 runs in an over.
  • Jasprit Bumrah’s haul of 3-68 in the first innings helped him become the Indian bowler with most number of wickets during a Test series in England (23). He surpassed Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s record of 19 wickets during a five-match series in 2014.

Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant

Ravindra Jadeja partnered with Rishabh Pant script history with 222-run partnership for the sixth wicket against England which was the highest partnership by an Indian team in England.

  • Pant made an 89-ball century on Day 1 of the match is the fastest by an Indian wicket-keeper in Test cricket ever.
  • Pant also became the first wicketkeeper batter to post a hundred and a fifty in the same Test vs England in England, apart from becoming the first wicketkeeper batter to manage 200-plus runs against England in England.
  • Pant made a total tally of 203 runs (146 & 57) is the highest by an Indian batsman in a Test at this venue (Edgbaston), bettering Virat Kohli’s tally of 200 (149 & 51 runs) in 2018.
  • Rishabh Pant became the second wicketkeeper-batter after Dhoni to score a 50-plus score in both the innings of a Test match at the venue.
  • Pant becomes highest-ranked Indian Test batter, ranking 6 in International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s Test ranking.

Pataudi Trophy is awarded to the winner of each Test cricket series between England and India contested in England.

  • It was first awarded in 2007 to commemorate the 75 years since the first Test match between the two sides. India won the first Pataudi Trophy in England in 2007.
  • The trophy itself was designed and made by Sara Jocelyn Margarita Elissa Burton .
