Earth Hour is annually observed across the globe on the last Saturday of March as an symbolic gesture towards the commitment to preserve the Earth and to support actions against Climate Change. Earth Hour is one of the world largest grassroot movements for the environment. The first Earth Hour was held in Sydney, Australia, in 2007.
Every year, On Earth Hour, millions of people across the globe switch off their non essential electric lights for an hour between 8.30 PM and 9.30 PM.
Earth Hour 2021 is observed on 27th March 2021.
- The Earth hour 2020 was observed on 28th March 2020.
- The Earth Hour 2022 will be observed on 26th March 2022.
The theme of Earth Hour 2021 is “Climate Change to Save Earth”.
Aim:
The Earth Hour 2021 aims to increase awareness and initiate global conversations on protecting nature to combat the climate crisis and to ensure health, happiness, prosperity and survival of the humans.
Background:
i.The Earth Hour was started by the World Wide Fund of Nature(WWF), formerly World Wildlife Fund and partners as a symbolic lights out event in Sydney in 2007.
ii.The Earth hour is a global movement that engages millions of people from more than 180 countries and territories in switching off their lights to support the protection of the Earth.

The WWF has hosted a guided meditation for individuals led by Dr. Chelsea Jackson Roberts, an internationally celebrated Yoga teacher and scholar.
