Ambit and Expansion of Aadhaar Card Scope in India
Aadhar Card is the unique identity card issued by the Government of India to each citizen. Aadhar is a 12-digit number that serves as a unique identifier for Indian citizens and residents. This number ensures that the individual is recognised by the Government for deliverance of various schemes’ benefits. Aadhar does away the need for each citizen to have multiple ID cards issued by various government departments. The 12-digit number of Aadhar is sufficient to uniquely identify any person. Government aims to gradually phase out all other ID cards like PAN card etc. and replace them with a single card ie Aadhar.
Aadhar does away the need for each citizen to have multiple ID cards issued by various government departments. The government uses Aadhar network in order to ensure that individuals who require assistance and benefits gain access to these resources directly, eliminating the need for middlemen. The 12-digit number of Aadhar is sufficient to uniquely identify any person. Government aims to gradually phase out all other ID cards like PAN card etc. and replace them with a single card i.e. Aadhar.
As part of this process, it is gradually linking all essential government services and benefits schemes to the Aadhar network, creating a centralized database through which it can distribute and keep track of the various schemes and programs it runs along with the beneficiaries. In this manner, it can also identify those who are receiving benefits but are not eligible for them and take corrective action. As the Government has already linked Aadhar to bank account and to LPG connection so through the PAHAL scheme individuals can receive their LPG subsidy directly into their bank accounts. This also negate the possibility of the funds being misappropriated or of individuals making fraudulent claims in order to claim benefits. One of the major impacts of creation of Aadhar card is its reduce the risk of fake ID proofs. With the valid Aadhar card, it has become possible to transfer wages to individuals in timely manner working under MNREGA.
The benefits of Aadhar are numerous but in case of a security breach in Aadhar database , the personal details of all the citizens will be at risk. If this apprehension can be dealt with, Aadhar expansion in the country will be highly beneficial for the citizens.
